The HSA have been instructed by the MSA to amend their regs to allow list 1b tyres as well as list 1a tyes and the extract of the letter from the MSA published on HSA web site states "..no exceptions to 2010 Championships in this respect will be permitted."
So doubtful if practical for event organiser to stick with 1a only (if allowed).

It says 'no exceptions'

So doubtful doesn't come into it. The championships that have excluded 1bs will have to rewrite their regs.
More ink up North anyone?

MSA Statement

I can confirm, following telephone communication with the MSA yesterday, this statement is NOT exclusive to the HSA Championship, but to all Championships where the regulations restrict Road-going classes to 1A tyres. I understand the change requested by the MSA is 'without exception', hence the HSA announcement to that effect.

I have sent a copy of the MSA Statement to the Chairman of the Northern Clubs Committee and asked for him to (a) talk to the MSA, and (b) hurry up & get the details out to the various championships/clubs.

I must however say that I for one was opposed to the "List 1A only" approach having seen what other areas and clubs were doing but as I was not on the committee I had no influence on the decision.

Another example of the powers that be in motor sport thinking everyone has a bottomless pocket. In the end they are going to price everyone out of the sport. I am lucky have not bought any new 1a tyres as mine were still ok, but am not sure that i can afford to buy any 1b's, so do i turn up on 1a,s and have no chance, or do i call it a do and give up. The whole thing has just got so out of hand this last 12 months.

Yep, Harewood regs state list 1a only for road-going series at the moment. Anyone in the market for 4 zeta lineas 225 35 17's with 300 miles on them ?

Oh dear...

This is a massive backward step. One has to wonder who actually benefits from this move. One thing is for sure it isn't the competitor.

Next thing you know there'll be specific classes in the Leaders for Road modified cars as long as they are on 1b tyres.

The performance hike that 1b tyres will give will easily turn some of the more developed unlimited cars (evos, scoobies etc) into Mod Prod beaters. Are the MSA intending to mandate corresponding levels of safety (comp seats/harnesses/cages) for all Road modified cars, or will they just wait and see what happens.

I'm staggered by the amount of people who don't even run Road Modified cars and yet are so single minded in their support of 1b tyres, it's nonsense...
  • Price/wear prohibitive.
  • Massively compromised for all weather use (road and competition).
  • Environmentally suspect and well up on the EUs hit list.
  • Mandated (so it would now seem) without any corresponding review of safety requirements.

It's also wholly unrefreshing to see the north/south divide so sneeringly re-inforced by long established forum "characters" as thinly veiled "banter". The clubs involved had consulted with their members and were acting prudently, it's a shame that the MSA have been influenced on this matter by individuals who are not acting in the best interests of the clubman competitor or with a view to the long term sustainability of the lower echelons of the sport.
