Adam's Covered Trailer Project
After a few months of planning, sketching, researching and disappearing off the the trailer park for hours on end during hillclimb weekends, I've finally got around to starting my covered trailer project.
The idea is to replicate the DG racebox like so: on our 2007 Brian James Clubman trailer: ![]() using parts from Service metals. The sides made from plygloss, held together with aluminium extrusions. The parts (most of them at least) were delivered this morning so this weekend we should get going! Hope this is of interest to a few. |

Here's the Service Metals website: http://www.servicemetals.co.uk/
Their catalogue is on there but without prices, see the screenshot of the spreadsheet above for a cost guide. |

This is definitely of interest - it would be great if you could build up a diary with pictures and descriptions of what and how you are doing it. Best of luck with the project !

Funny that this should come up. I've just sold my last trailer and am starting another in the same design. My expected spend comes in at £700ish though. My parts were sourced from http://www.cvr-uk.com/panels.aspx which seem to be able to do the dry freight panels in 3000mm wide strips so splitting to 1500mm for additional height is easy. They were also much cheaper than Service Metals

That's unfair, John has prior experience!
![]() My reason for choosing service metals is that they are just down the road, I went in and chatted to them and they were able to write me up a list of what I would need, supply samples etc and deliver when it was convenient. Made the process very easy. There probably are even cheaper ways of doing it

The roof is translucent fibreglass. Hopefully all will become clearer as I proceed with the project! |

Managed to cut the 8ft tall boards down to 5ft and 3ft strips today. The 5ft ones will be the sides and the 3ft ones (reduced to 2.5ft) cut in half the other way and joined with ali strip to make the front and rear. Bit of a painful job to move them around as they are the best part of 80kgs each and pretty flexible but we managed to get them laid out on some ladders on tyres to cut.
Pictures laid out and marking with a piece of angle: |

And then cutting with a jigsaw (fibreglass blunts the blades pretty quickly
) and back in the garage. Tomorrows aim is to get the front piece made and cut to size before attacking the sides.
