As my RWD205 Rally car has now been outlawed, by our “Lords and Masters”, I contemplating having ago at sprints and hill climbs.
I have got an MSA scrutineer coming to inspect the car, on Thursday, to tell me what I need to do to get a Sports Libre log book.
I shall be starting with a national B non-race licence.
I am based in Leicester. I am a member of the Kettering & District Motor Club but they are not involved in sprints or hill climbs so I am looking at joining a Sprint / Hill climb orientated club but which one.
The only hill climb venue I have only visited is Loton Park, many years ago, and the Manx Classic, I have family on the Island.
The Midland championship looks to have rounds handy for me.

Hi

Have a look at: www.hillclimbandsprint.co.uk Championship.

Thoresby Park, MIRA, Blyton Park, and Curborough are all on the venues for 2012, just a few miles from you.

The HSA welcomes new drivers with "B" licences, have a look at the Forum re 2011 newcombers comments.

Midland is a great series - Tony Fletcher is the man to talk to. Shelsley (MAC) Loton (HDLCC) and Prescott (BOC) but this year with a Gurston round thrown in for good measure. All are fantastic rural venues. MAC probably nearer than Loton from where you are. All do B meetings but you can upgrade to an A after four events so long as you behave yourself and collect the necessary signatures from the Clerk. HSA do a sprint series which is across venues much more varied and further afield. More seat time generally but I prefer going up hills and limiting my travel. Each to their own though.

You don't say what engine in your 205, if over 2L you can only drive at speed events if it is in road legal condition unless you have an A (open) speed licence I think.

Welcome to the fold btw

Sounds like the Midland Speed Championship (HSA) would be best for you, not to be confused with 'The Midland Hillclimb Championship' (Tony Fletcher) I'm rather partial to the latter as it's held on the classic hills and seen to do well in it However most events are 2 days with only 2 runs a day will soon P you off I'm sure if you are used to more seat time.

Ah you must have come here from the rallyforum?

Welcome. I think we are soon to get a few of these cars now the MSA "have got their way" banning your car!!!

Yes the Midland Speed Championship has just the class for you car in 2012.

Ref logbooking: It might be worth checking with the MSA first but could you not just use your existing (expired for rallying) logbook for speed events?

I already compete in sports libre with my rally car logbook.

It might save you the unnecessary expense of re-logbooking.

Also if you only do a few events a year it is not necessary to have an MSA logbook if you already have your road car paperwork (registration document).
You need to find out how many events you need to do before MSA logbook is required to continue. I would suggest "a few" means 5 events - its worth checking this out.

Yes the Midland Speed championship is the one (note, nothing to to with the HSA). A great mix of Hills and Sprints.

I found the Nat A Midland Hillclimb championship with only two runs a day and if really wet sometimes only taking one on the second day a real turn off. The classic venues are great, but not the format of the event. Much better going to the venues for the Nat B events.

Yes the Midland Speed Championship has just formed a championship class for your type of car, have a look at www.midlandspeed.org.uk

£25 gets you membership AND championship registration and invites to events all over the UK.

Scrutineer looked at car today and can’t see any problems with log booking it as a Hill climb / Sprint car.
It has a 1997cc Vauxhall engine so I guess I’m OK for National B
Looks like it will be the Midland Speed events for me then.

Scrutineer rang today. MSA have graciously said I can use the car for Hill climbs / Sprints but they still want their £36 for a new log book!
