More than usefull advice Craig and not just tubular members. The number of wings you see supported on the rear gearbox cover of a Hewland is terrifying. 6 x 1/4" studs are not designed to hold the rear wings of powerful cars with huge wings. The are literally pulling the studs out of the gearbox case. Just one example....

Bad luck Craig. SHould be a quick fix with the MIG though. When I ran the same set up I put some mountain bike brake cable through the end plates and down to the chassis to provide extra bracing / stop wobble. Light and little drag. It might help?

Hope you get it fixed soon anyway.
