i had a downdraft head recently but sold it on as I think it as a bit too much, dont fancy having trumpets poking out my bonnet.
145bhp will be ambitious from any 1300 pushrod motor ![]() good thing about keeping low capacity is they don't need huge primaries. bodies will be touching underneath the front panel, decent exhaust wrap, ally wrap on the inlet and a good heatshield will be fine, especially with all the cool air going straight into the carbs. Rods are from an 1100 escort, longer than 1300 rods as they use the same height block with different cranks, pistons are flat top pre xflow pistons and will need skimming to fit, so will be much lighter than normal xflow pistons. just because there are better options out there, does not give me reason to avoid going this route. why am I going this route? Because I can. Ally heads are lighter than iron heads, with such a naff engine I need to save as much weight as possible

I built my 1330cc Mini engine as i wanted it, i've had several folk with 1380's get quite poked off when i tell them what HP i get on the rolling road, and so far this season i've beaten a 2litre golf from 1 class above me and a 2.2 ltr lotus sunbeam from 2 class's up. What's actually needed is more out there doing it!!! |
