avons v hoosier
morning , been running avons for a while now and its seems the performance drop off of the tyre is quite fast ,i do buy a set of tyre every season, is anyone running other brands with great results . hoosier are 4 kg lighter rolled on a kevlar base and the soft compound is through out the whole thickness of tyre extending the life , price is a little cheaper too.
but i cant afford to be a £650 ish guinea pig my car is a 275 kg force with k6 im told by hoosier that alot of forces use or used them |

Avons v Hoosier
I've raised this question before on here and the concencus always seems to be in favour of "better the devil you know" Avons.
Apart from the obvious difficulty of finding sufficient people who do (rather than have) run them, there is also the question as to how old they are "off the shelf". So many people run Avons that it's almost certain that you'll get fresh tyres when buying at the start of a season. However with the fewer users for Hoosiers is there any guarantee that you won't be getting 9 - 12 month old tyres especially as they come from the States. I contacted Martin at Hoosier last year and questioned him on who and how many hill climbers are currently on Hoosiers and he was very shy about discussing this. I suspect he would not have hidden his light under a bushel had most of the curret BHC runners been shod with his tyres! I might have been tempted to try my arm with a set, but the prices I was offered were very little below Avon prices. I found this surprising as one would expect the underdog supplier keen to cut a deal to promote their tyres and increase market share. One benefit for me moving over to Hoosiers is that they are based only 15 miles from my home and Martin offered free fitting and balancing. I'm going to have another go at Martin next season and if i can get better answers then I might just "chance my arm" Richard

Avons. You can get them sent over from the states for half the price they are from BMTR. I'm getting two sets sent over for the start of next season if anyone wants to combine postage.

If you can gather enough people together why not try either Bridgestone or Dunlop and see what they say just a thought ????

Has anyone tried the Dunlop HC100's yet? There is always a lot of talk about them on here especially from the guys in Malta

Dunlop CR311`s are another thought, and are on the list 1b, work well from cold.

Avons from USA
Quote:
Can you get the same range of compounds from USA? I am not ready for tyres as yet, but would be interested to know who you are going to buy them through? I assume there is a high chance of them attracting duty and vat. Are they really that much cheaper taking all this into account? Regards Robin |

hoosiers do not make a radial so would not suit the larger cars, and the bhc are probably not that worried about a £200 saving
the hoosier crossplies do have a stiffer tyre wall than the avons |
