Bernie Ecclestone

Poor old Bernie...

Honest to goodness the poor man must be bored to tears, he's plainly got far too much time on his hands and is possibly the worst wind-up merchant going.

Have you ever heard such a load of shaggy dog nonsense in your life, I think the "voices" have dared him to call a press conference to perpetuate this hairbrained scheme.

I'm amazed he can keep a straight face. He really is F1's loony grandad, i'll be half expecting him to be in the pit lanes next season in his pyjamas, letting peoples tyres down.

J,

Absolute potty! I think his other half has finally seen sense.

Can I ask what is wrong with going to 12points for a win then, 8, 6, 5 etc to put more emphasis on winning?

"all the teams are in favour" - yeah right as if they had a choice!

I like the idea of more of a points gap between 1st and 2nd but think there should still be points down to 8th as the smaller teams who dont usually get into the top 3 wont be scoring many points will they thus reducing their tv exposure and sponsorship....

Doubt they will be happy with that.....

Bernie's great, I'm sure he's back in his ivory tower having a great laugh.
No doubt scrapping the points system would mean a complete redrafting of the Concorde Agreement and that will be what Bernie is really after, because he'll need the money when his wife's lawyers have been paid.

and I wasn't at all surprised when he said it all without changing his facial expression. However, if the teams are allowed a vote on this, will they let it go through, of course they will, and these are the teams who are going to be the losers. The answer is quite simple, if the FIA allow the changes and the teams dont like it, then withdraw. There wont be much profit in it if there are only 6 cars on the grid.

I concur the man is mad as a brush.

For one I don't think it will make more overtaking - as we've seen in the last two seasons at least those two extra points for one driver for a win over second would have changed the chapionship outcome.

If it was in place this year the Massa victory in Spa would have decided the title. So every race win would end up in court. Agressive driving for victory of the sort Ecclestone wants would simply result in the win being taken away.

Plus with the points system you get fights for position right through the field - again, that 1 point does make a huge difference, especially for the minnows. Under Bernie's plan there would only be any point in first and second places going at it - no one else has anything to gain from a risk.

In all competitive sports that run over a championship rather than a single event points are used. Simple as.

I am sure, if I remember correctly, it was Bernie who wanted to reduce the emphasis on winning when the points were changed from 10-6-4-3-2-1 because Mr Schumacher had wrapped the title up by mid season.

Also if you think of Mansells '92 title season, under the proposed system he probably would have won it by mid season too!

So under the medal proposal, If you are a championship contender and you are in 4th place and out of the medals, you may as well ditch the car so you can have a new engine and gearbox for the next race as there would be no incentive to finish.

Not sure what Ecclestone is trying to achieve as the battles for the points that occur down the field never get shown on TV as the directors are too stupid to realise that watching some clown in the lead potter round on his last lap is entertaining!

The sooner there is one dedicated director for F1 the better!

My understanding of the current points system is that the more points that a team accruse it means they get more travelling money. Now what I can never understand is the fact that it probably costs about the same for all the teams to get to the venues, so why should the richer teams get more money, after all they are taking about the same amount of equipment. Bernie should start sorting this area out and give the poorer teams the same. Or have I missed something......
