That brings back memories of taking my mum out in a 1600 engined Mk1 Escort back in the 1970's, probably considerably slower then but all things are relative as it was certainly faster than my dads Hillman Minx she had just got out of.

My dad had an Avenger GT in the seventies when my mum was learning to drive. After sitting at a roundabout for an age, my dad shouted "now -go go".

Mum - "whats that noise ?"

Dad - " that's the tyres"

Mum - " that's me ??"
