Classes...
Bit of a small issue and a bit of confusion BUT...
Our first sprint saw a Bike engined Powered Mini beat a Car Engined Mini.. No problem there but this is where I am confused... Both cars (I believe) were in the same class HOWEVER Mini's didn't come with bike engines as standard so WHY should it be in the same class as a Car engined mini? The Car engined mini is techincally a special saloon but a bike engined mini has been modified to fit a bike engine and not an original engine block from that car.. This is causing some cconcern from my point of view as I'm in the process of building a Special Saloon but if I'm going to be up against bike engines then I won't bother... ANyone care to shed some light?... Im just totally confused as my view was that a car that had a bigger capacity than an original production car but still kept the same block or car engine was in special saloons and a car with a bike engine would be sports libre or something?... ![]() ![]()

I assume the class must have been Sports Libre, and as it's name suggest it is a Sports "free" class wich acts as a catch all for cars that don't fit the restrictive Modified or Production classes.
There is no class specifically for "Special Saloons", these have run in Sports Libre for many years now. As has been debated here before, there are not enough entrants to be worth sub dividing the class, if you can get enough people to run similar cars the events are perfectly free to run a special class for these cars within the Sports Libre category "Mod sports" can have a larger capacity within the original block, as long as it does not push it beyond the class for the original capacity. The Modified class is of course actually quite limited in what is allowed to modify, basically nothing between the axle lines...

We do run "Special Saloon" classes as per 2010 Blue book, which does come under the banner of Sports Libre however it is a bonafide class with it's own set of regulations. The first regulation that would cause an issue with a Z cars Mini is that the engine is in the wrong end of the car. This would render the car ineligible for Special Saloons and with this being so it would have to run Sports Libre open i.e Mallocks etc.

It did run as sports libre for both the sprint and hill.
I really really liked it - really well made, sounded awesome and looked cute. Ben drove it well too and did some excellent times first time out in it. Lovely shiny red too - not that I'm a red person though - pink rules!!!! ;o) |

Would a rear wheel drive Peugeot 205 be OK in Special Saloons if the engine remained up-front?
