Classic class

How does the classic class work in Midland and British Hillclimb events?

Is it split by engine size or is there just 1 class for classics?

How would a classic formula ford get on?

Thanks

Gary

Classes depend on the venue organiser and sometimes the championships they invite. Generally age defined with classes split according to MSA categories, never capacity splits. Rarely a classic FF class although HSA do have one in their championship.

I am interested in this too.

I am interested in this too.

I have a Formula Ford 2000.

The car is a 1982 Van Diemen with a carburettor fed Pinto. The car is in original condition and specification with the correct engine etc.

It has a proper Historic Technical Passport. The car can run in Historic Hillclimbing on the continent. However at 30 years old, is "Too new" to run in Historic events in the UK. This is really sad as these cars are a very cheap way into historic cars.

Given the very poor economic conditions, and the likely continuing falling entry lists, I think classic and Historic FF1600 and FF2000 is a "Missed Trick" You can run one for very little money and they are proper cars with easy to run characteristics. Plus, these cars are very safe!

I will follow this with interest.

Thanks Fyrth

I am aware of the HSA class for these cars but the odd scoring method puts me off the HSA championship although if it's the only place to get regular competition I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Greg, I think the cut off date for Historics in the UK (speed events) is 1979/80, so you will stuill be out of date........

I would have thought most people realised that hills and sprints with an older chassis are not about winning anything but about enjoying the experience, just like using a Porsche 930 as a shopping car! Most of the time I run with 'the moderns' which makes me lift my game and PBs still occur, even if I'm generally last in the class.

That said, I understand that the HSA Classic FF class might be quite competative in 2013 and there is also class W2 for single seaters built before 31.12.83. The scoring system cannot be that odd as I managed 8th overall, generally alone in my class.

Fyrth, you are a very good driver and well deserving a top 10 championship placing.
