Of course the great Murray Walker is the top man when it comes to commentary gaffs but these are a few of my favourites from other wielders of the microphone:

"there are signs of inactivity" - Peter Hamilton-Smith (he must have been talking about the Rescue Unit post cake)

"whilst there is no visible sign of a car on the startline" - John Moody

"and there is Andy Priaulx driving with great circumcision" - John Moody at a wet Loton (never knew Andy was Jewish!)

"It caused it to retirement" Simon Taylor in one of his more locuacious moments at Oulton Park.

However there is only one Murray Walker ..............

"Spa is unique in that it has road track" - this just one week after the Monaco GP.

"I'll stop my start watch"

"Arnoux, in the Ligier, grossly overweight"

"It's a clean start at the begining"

But my favourite has to be ...........

"He failed to finish at San Marino for the simple reason that he failed to start"

The trick is not to listen.

How one earth has Hasta got Goodwood out of Hall Green?

Turning the volume down to ensure that the marshalling team could hear their two-way radios clearly caused a minor crisis amongst some of the more elderly spectators as they thought they had gone a bit deaf.

As you know I do not listen but I do have a fairly acute word detector . Goodwood is one of those words.

This may not be the right plce for this post, but it is about commentators.

Thanks to everybody for their words of appreciation at Shelsley yesterday. I've just finished clearing the site and was pleased to to find very ,very litter about. Most of the bins were full. Thank you. On a lighter note it took almost as long to clean out one of the commentary boxes as it did the rest of the hill Pork pie wrappers, Pasty boxes, Coke cans orange juice cartons, I'm sure I must have missed the Tesco home delivery
