So how do I play it at RetroRides Gathering in August then?

Full 'Goodwood' mode or 'School run' (is there a difference?)

Do you really want me to answer that??

Graham I would suggest asking someone at the BOC about a week before the event for guidance. By then they will have had a chance to look at it more by then

Perhaps the problem is the car having no windscreen, it may be legal, but not exactly a practical road car.

These public drives are strictly non competitive and insured as such, one solution may be to restrict the lack of a windscreen to ensure there are no flies in eyes and only genuine road cars are used.

Bit of a killjoy approach, but better than a blanket rule against safety equipment?

Maybe some of the people with these cars without windscreens trailer them to the events - a bit like trackdays!

Surely if a car is road legal and it has no windscreen then the wearing of a crash helmet and or goggles would be allowable? Imagine if they ran a similar event for motorbikes and banned the wearing of crash helmets!

As the wearing of a helmet is mandatory for a motorbike on the public highway then I don't think that's a particularly valid argument

The consensus on Sunday was helmets were allowed for open top cars with no windscreens. Only.

As a guest I was advised I could wear a helmet if I wished, but I decided not to. Kevin Cole and ze German guests all did, but that was with permission.

Common sense did prevail, but my hearing took a bashing.
