I wasn't actually suggesting not bothering! I saying that it really needs something much better than that, doh!

You might look at making a spacer to go between the cam cover and head to make more of a flat plate to the bulkhead? or pick up on something else but not a plate with bent ends.

I never thought you were implying not bothering, sorry.

Flat plate and nice rigid spacer would be much better. This top mount is essential for chassis ridgidity in both twist and bend.

Thanks for that... due to the head being taller by nearly 50mm. we at first came up with a flat plate with spacers . but it didnt really look right this plate is 10mm alloy heat treated and there are spacers in the head with 8mm bolts and metal spacers in the top plate.

Hi,

in whole vehicle bending and torsion your top plate will offer very little resistance. Sadly, I think you will find that you will break the tubular mid-mounts regularly. As soon as you move from a flat top plate, the stiffness drops dramatically. In whole vehicle bending and torsion the bent 10mm ali will be near useless. The high stiffness that you require can only be achieved by using a totally flat top plate in shear with good posts. It looks like there is a lot of emissions kit cast into the cam cover that could be removed? Allan has more experience with Dallaras than me and with how it is usually achieved. I am just a structural engineer.

Nice colour Darren.....almost the same as mine!!!!!

Re. that top engine mount, in my opinion if you are going to leave it like that with a bend in it, weld up the sides under the bends to give it a sort of "box" section with gussets. This will definately reduce flex and give the plate much more rigidity. (just a suggestion)
