Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't ERA sell a mini with turbocharged 1275cc that was a factory turn key car available to buy from a Rover dealership?

don't think it was in enough volume sales to comply with Series Category
would be Categorised as Specialist Mod Prod with Locaterfields

According to the ERA Mini Turbo register there were 99 UK spec cars built and 337 Japanese spec cars. - firmly in the Specialist Production Car categories.

In it the MSA clearly state that a car can have modifications to the engine etc but the capacity increase MUST keep it within the same capacity class as a similar car would have been without the modifications.

This means that it is OK to supercharge or turbocharge any car of greater than 2000cc as it will remain in an over two litre capacity however cars with smaller capacity engines are handicapped especially those which were only fitted in period with one engine capacity. Thus Ford Escorts of up to 1428cc can be supercharged/turbocharged and will remain with the Up to 2 litre class.

However the only Mini that can have a turbocharger or supercharger fitted is one of 999cc capacity!
(small point of order, Minis were also made with 848cc and 970cc engines)

In ASWMC land our splits are at 1400, 1800 and 2600. Forced induction onto a 2000cc car will move it up a class, and therefore into libre.

I have pointed out that it seems unfortunate that a particular vehicle with an overbored engine, or modified by the addition of forced induction could be roadgoing series one weekend and libre the next weekend if the events impose different capacity splits in their respective SRs. As yet this has not had any effect. I will keep nagging away.

And oddly enough the turbocharging of a 1275 Mini for the road is one of the most popular routes to take to get a few cheap BHP's. As we know the poor old asthmatic A-Series doesn't flow very well but shove a compressor on it & the magic 100bhp is do-able quite easily & without spending a fortune. (I believe that 200bhp's can be had with some fancy £parts )

There's even a web based forum dedicated to turbo'd Mini forum
and yet the MSA accidently rejects to allow one of the most popular conversions of one of the most popular cars to compete except when running in Libre ........... oops.

BTW, there is a very successful/fast turbo'd 998 Mini running up the hills. I think it's had lots of years of development by two very talented brothers & they have made for an amazing wee motor which most of us Mini enthusiasts watch with envy.

It's a red Clubman built & run by the Hamer brothers.
Good to know that there's another monster out there.
