Fwd/Rwd specs

An interesting list for road-going competitors. Rwd list is also available on the site.

Excellent stuff for pub conversations & discussions on bulletin boards, both of which I enjoy.

Main thing to remember is that it is theoretical, though they say it correlates well with "road tests".

Now, "road tests" have been "fixed" since the dawn of time (150 mph E Type Jags?) & it would be trivially easy to fix 0-60 & standing 1/4 test figures by choice of rim width, tyre & surface. Since that site is theoretical, the figures could easily be more representative than the road tests - no scope for fitting wider wheels, 1B's, tyre conditioner etc.

As the site says, the variables taken into account are minimal (bhp/ton and number of gearchanges). So, if you bang some appropriate profile, 10" 008R’s on the front of your Focus you might beat the Astra VXR 888 that comes tops in the FWD category.

Ultimately though, we aren’t drag racers. The top hillclimb & sprint cars pay little attention to standing start acceleration – the compromises involved in getting off the line vs. accelerating out of a corner stack up vastly in favour of the latter. This was pointed out on an earlier thread re. the hillclimb cars & it’s equally obvious with Nick Algar’s Aintree outright record earlier this year - 2.01 secs. over 64 ft is not that special whereas 35.82 overall is incomprehensible.

BTW another site worth looking at for roadgoing is carfolio.com when it comes to choice of weapons. Again, no guarantees on accuracy, but it’s definitely something to befuddle the scrutes with when you turn up with the Malaysian (sp?) version of a Focus that was allegedly equipped with a pair of Rolls-Royce Olympus jet engines.

A glaring omission from the stats is seat material/thickness/abrasiveness.

Been chewing the seat much harder since fitting the diff. Wouldn't like to suffer from too much chaffing...

Just bolt some solid rocket boosters to the car.
Nothing in the rules about rocket propulsion.

Oh hang on, just because it doesn't say you cant, doesnt mean you can. Or something like that.

Well maybe there isn't anything now, but I remember listening to a tape by Explosives expert and raconteur Blaster Bates. He told the story of how a bet from a friend lead to him strapping a couple of 3" pipes stuffed with some explosive mixture to the side of his old Triumph motor cycle and lighting the 'blue touch' paper. This event was supposed to have taken place at a venue sanctioned by the RAC. It may have been a 'demo' of some kind.....

Do you remember him Filmstar, when demolishing chimneys he used dynamite, unlike Fred Dibnah who attacked them with a box of matches......................

Only too well, I can remember listening to an LP (can you remember those) of his and the story of the Italians and the tinted toilet tissue had me laughing out load.
