Team Orders have been part of Grand prix since before the World Championship. I think that Ferrari clearly rearranged their team, but this is no different to many other cases in the recent & distant past. "Alonso is quicker than you" is no different to the messages used by other teams: "use map G8" or "Go to fuel saving mode". Ferrari are guilty of being less subtle.
To seek to ban team orders is futile. One would have to completely rearrange the business & team structure of f1, which is not going to happen. So, whilst ferrari are guilty in this case, they are guilty of breaking a stupid law. A law that was hurriedly put in place to limit the Ferrari domination in 2002, and has been broken by lots of other teams since.
Better, imho, to do away with the law altogether and reinforce the concept that the team championship is to equal to the driver's championship.

I understand that the 100K fine was the maximum that the race stewards could give at the race itself

I would have thought that the Regulation prohibiting Team Orders during the race would be easier to police if the FIA banned Pits to Car radio. As for it being a stupid regulation - most are!

Personally I would have given Alonso a time penalty equal to the time difference back to Massa plus 1 second. This would have returned the status quo and also made Alonso even more paranoid!!!

Ferrari is in the business of selling cars. The only reason they are in F1 is to market their produce.
If they win the championship, they sell more cars. and they don't particularly care which driver gives them that.
However, what they did devalues F1 and turns the viewing public off, reducing the potential advertising revenues for the tv companies that pay for the privilege of airing the "spectacle" live.
Two big brands protecting their name ?

"Alonso the Innocent"

Fernando must attend drama classes. His portrayal of innocence when questioned about the blatent cheating was almost as good as his Oscar winning performance in the Renault Crash Test Dummy epic starring Nelson Piquet Jnr!!
Anyone spotted a common thread here? Everyone else ends up soiled and Alonso emerges as the winner smelling of roses. He seems to have star manipulative qualities to enhance his acting and driving skills!

Spot on Steve.

Hopefully that will happen at the FIA hearing, but not going to hold my breath

They should ban pit to car radio. But keep car to pit.

And if someone says "driver so and so is faster than you" wouldn't you just put your foot down.

I find the whole pit to car comms business most bizarre.

"Well done, good boy", wtf?

The talk of banning pit to car radio is daft IMHO, although it provides any easyily albeit highly noticable channel with which to relay potentially illegal messages, removing it wouldn't benifit the sport.

I know I certainly wouldn't like to be unable speak to my driver during a race (I speak from experience here btw).
