Dont despair. As a past Karter I am currently championing your cause within the "Powers that be" and personnaly would love to see them enter the H & S sport in a seperate Class, maybe scrutinised by the Karting section of the MSA organisation. In view of the general comments and percieved problems then maybe initially at the Sprints and then when everyone has seen their performance, drivers ability, safety aspects etc. etc. proceed to the Hills. Long way to go but I agree 100% with those willing to allow/see these super machines in action. |

Anyone who has witnessed a kart accident on a hill like Doune or Wiscombe might consider it a lilttle too risky. Seeing a Kart go off and disapear into the trees and undergrowth is an anxious moment for all.

no question motorsport is dangerous, but i honestly dont think karts are too overly dangerous, especially on some tracks...
has anyone here been in a high speed kart crash, i have, at60mph in a twin engined honda rented thing at the end of a pit strait in spain (the place has no consideration for safety) i had to swerve to avoid a spun car which planted me in the tirewall which by how it felt, i think they where tired down seriously hard... i came out the kart, over the wheel and rolled on the ground for a few feet. i stood up, sat back down and carried on... i agree it isnt the same thing if it was a wall, but a crash at that speed, with only a helmet on i think i did pretty well... bearing in mind i only had a full face helmet, i think i done alright... some places you have to wear a foam neck brace sort of thing, not sure if theyre banned or anything as i havent seen them recently, but that would stop your neck in most circumstances... p.s reading my posts you might think all i do is crash, i dont, i can drive :P |

I must admit, I was extremely taken by the Karts in Jersey a few weeks ago, and was very cross I hadnt put a superkart in the van & taken it over.. I fully agree with Jo & others about the potential for disaster in a kart, but bizarrely, I think I feel more safe & at home in the kart than I do in the single seater - but I think some of that is time in the seat, and some of it is the fact that you can slide karts easilly (which I love), and I'm still only 18months into hillclimb slicks and finding "grip" quite a unique sensation....
Very tempted to do the kart thing at the Channel Islands next year - not sure of the licence/club implications, but bl**dy hell it'd be fun And no expensive trailer to ferry across!

Hey Rob its because when sitting in a kart one is actually wearing it, it goes back to infancy and being swathed in cloth and feeling secure yet actually vulnerable.
Hmm best i stop here as i could waffle

HSA to consider Kart Class for 2011
Hi K-K and all other karters.
I am pleased to say that I have pursuded the Hill Climb and Sprint Association (HSA) to consider running a Kart Class in 2011. I have been charged with making a presentation to their next Committee meeting. What I initially need to know is how many of you are interested in participating and in what Kart Class are you currently running. No doubt you are aware of the costs involved including: An appropiate MSA Speed Licence - see their website Membership of the HSA, currently £42 per year, which includes 5 copies of the Speedscene Magazine Event entry, about £100 per event. If interested Karters could Email me at the following address with information requested above, I can start full investigation of exactly whats required to permit you to race on the Hills. karts@hillclimbandsprint.co.uk (Just being set up) Maybe you can post this onto "Karting" websites so we can a better view of interested numbers. |
