go-karts

just out of curiosity, why where they banned from hillclimbing? (if they are, which i think they are...)

what about osmething like a gizzerkart? with over 600cc, could it be classed under 600cc race car etc?

is it a safety reason? if so what if it had roll hoops over the thighs and head etc...

can someone clear this up for me? as i would love to have one, and competeing would give me a solid reason to get one, especially as now i have a car to get to an event in...

and before you say i should compete in my mini, there is no way im risking my beautiful little precious car i have been loveingly restoring over the last year on a track, only to roll it :P

then why not have a go-kart class? there seems to be a class for everything else, and i bet a gixxerkart would be no faster than a 600cc single seater, acceleration yes, but geometry and top end it wont be...

They have kart classes in the Channel Islands but not on the "Mainland" ---- I think safety is the issue ---- not so sure about Ledon's second point as I don't think Karts make the 100k cars look particularly slow on the Islands

I have some hillclimb championship videos from about 94 / 95 and there was a 250cc superkart at Val De Terres. I think it ran external to the meeting as a timed demo run, and if I recall correctly it recorded the unofficial BTDBTDBTD. Cars are quicker now no doubt, but this kart was spectacularly quick. Very sideways, all over the kerbs. The final corner was mind-blowing.

That said I wouldn't want to drive one on safety grounds.

Yep Karts are undoubtedly quick and some tight courses where the big cars can't use their power may suit them but I don't think Karts are up with the current crop of Big Bucks cars. --- could be wrong tho as I've never ventured down to the islands --- I've no doubt that by ignoring all the rules on construction and being unconcerned by safety you could create a Kart like projectile that would be blindingly fast

but surely a kart will be no more dangerouse than a motorbike doing the TT... or any motorbike for that matter.

i would love to be able to go fast for very low money, and i dont realy see a problem if they have there own class, and maybe wear motorbike leathers and helmet...

If it's not in the Blue Book you can't do it.........so forget about 'what if'..............if you want to go Kart racing why not do just that, the hills and sprints are not the safest place with no protection hense no Karts.

I think I can safely say that we all want that.

2 points:

If us amateurs were operating at that level of danger then few of us would do it.

If hillclimb / sprint accidents happened at at the frequency that occur at the TT then our sport would be legislated / priced out of existence.
