I totally agree with you..........Just that on a hill you wont slide far till you hit the scenery.Be it on a bike or cornering faster in a kart.

Remember bikes do the hills down south and dont run MSA rules they run ACU rules so could Karts run somthing similer (probably not as they run MSA )

That would sound the logical solution but there would still need to be a decent entry.

Allan --- errrmmmm! whatever rule fix might allow Karts to run doesn't alter the laws of physics if you run one into something immoveable at speed

Falling off a cliff clutching someone's Health and Safety Policy is still falling off a cliff

OK --- I'll set myself up for a flaming then

I've never been a real Karter but I've had the odd dabble with them every now and then since the 60's when Karts were built in a tin shed at Rye House and always thought they were a great buzz --- However --- they started out racing round American shopping mall car parks with lawn mower engines and sack barrow wheels --- they've since got quicker and quicker due to tyre and engine development (2x mccullough chain saw engines, tuned to the max villiers 9e's, montessas, Komets, Bultacos and on up to the modern long circuit screamers). But fundamentally they've not changed all that much from their 30mph ancestors --- especially in the area of driver safety!

They're now as quick as a lot of single seaters with the driver safety of a sack barrow --- think how race car safety has kept up with speed improvements since the sixties (and to add a bit more for Les ---even bike engined SS's are getting farther and farther away from Karts not more similar -- look at the Raptor or a modern Force with it's CF monocoque and ultra sophisticated suspension -- no resemblance at all ).

Karts are great but the widening disparity between massively increased performance and static driver safety makes it all the more important that they race in an environment where safety is as far as possible mitigated by the environment ---and that's not the Hills

Kart clubs are moving to custom built plastic barriers as they consider even the tyre barrier to be too risky ---- and yet we think it's fine to consider ways for them to fire up the Tunnel at Doune at 100mph inches off a dry stone dyke with no run off anywhere?? (except another dry stone dyke 12 feet across the track!!) Hmmmm!

I'm no safety freak and have my share of offs (and the odd trip to A an E ) but there's enough Tree Huggers and Nannies frowning at motorsport for us to want to avoid high profile injuries or worse if at all possible ---neither would I want to see the current hills sanitised to suit !!

Ok that's my ten pence worth --- flame away

I wanted to put more smileys in this to offset it's ranty appearance so you'll just have to read it with a smile

K

No, they are mostly highly sophisticated race cars, just with small but sometimes very powerful engines.

Are you really suggesting that the Raptor, and the Forces are just expensive go-karts?
