If I had a 250 kart to race, believe me I would love to have a go at a few UK events - knowing the risks etc.

I haven't as it happens.

I think it should happen for sure. Despite being small/light and very quick they do actually stop very quick once the anchors are slammed on (or they'll just spin out)

Karts are designed for "circuits" and as I understand most sprints are run using "circuits" so... what's the problem?

Run as a separate class, with its own rules, it should provide great viewing for spectators, and enormous fun for competitors, at modest cost.

Go for it!
I think you are being a bit unfair with a statement like this, suggesting that we have a 'moaning b#stards' and 'arm chair experts' on this forum. Find out who they are and sort them, do like Ian is doing and start to lobby in the right place. I personally dont give a t#ss about whether karts are run or not, but having seen them run at the BSC round at Mallory Park in 2009 I wouldn't object if they did come to the hills or the sprint venues. I also saw the Superkarts at Walter Hayes at Silverstone a couple of years ago as well, unbelievable quick, a real eye opener. Mind you I 'shut' them quick when one of the drivers got dead, sad end to the day. One thing that hasnt been mentioned is numbers. If this is going to be cheaper for the karters than racing, then the organisers could be overwelmed with entries. It would be totally unfair to have more karts in class then the largest car class, though if general entries are low then secretaries could decide how many they can take at the risk of being accused of using the karts as 'make weights'.

Good point Redturner

Any Karters care to tell us what they pay for an entry fee to a) a normal kart meeting and b) whats the entry fee for a Channel Isle Kart Hillclimb?

Just gathering info for my continued battle.

Bloody 'ell Bugs, thats going to put a lot of potential karters off joining the 'regular' competitors in the UK. With average entry fees now in the £100 region I dont think there will be many takers except of course certain owners who, like me are getting too long in the tooth to go back to racing/dont want to race.

Nothing different than someone crossing the channel with a single seater and paying the same entry fee though is there?

Motorsport isn't cheap...

£45 to £55 seems to be the going rate for kart racing at 3 Sisters( 2/3 heats + final), i.e. about half the entry fee for sprinting at the same venue. I imagine the price difference is mostly down to the fact that they can fit in about twice as many entries on a race day than they can with a sprint.

You may wish to spend more time talking to the MSA about any safety issues & ascertaining the cost of running Karts alongside cars (i.e. additional scrutes, additional license, etc)

Spot on Dennis although the Superkarters have had the British Sprint Championship with them at Mallory, Silverstone & this year Cadwell as they too are feeling the pinch with reduced entries & increased circuit hire.

Personally I have no objection to a class or classes for Karts. What I would question is the organisers support for the idea. After all the club would have to (a) provide trophies, (b) allocate time for the class, (c) possibly spend more money on the venue & license etc. It would then have to weigh this against the number of entries it may or may not get. It would be a risky business and if organisers can already fill entry lists then why take the risk?

Sadly, they couldn't join us at a speed event and expect to get away with only paying the £45-50 entry fee. They are using the same bit of track for the 'same' bit of time.............
