helmet regs

So p42 of motorsport now says that the old BS std helmets are now ok until 2015

My lid is a type A, but the regs mention type A / FR

Does that mean mine is still a flower pot and I need to buy a new one?

Hi

Yes you need a new one, the FR = Fire resistant.

Mine was the same so just got a new Snell certified from www.plays-kool.co.uk for £141 delivered. Looks great and after using my other one for years it did show that it no longer fitted.

Thanks.

I'll try the bike shop in town for a replacement. I'd rather try one on before buying as the comfort levels and 'fit' does seem to vary a lot between manufacturers.

Thought this extract of the MSA's First E Newsletter might be of interest >

Helmet Standards

The Motor Sports Council has extended the life of the BS 6658-85 Type A/FR helmet standard by two years to 31st December 2015, despite the FIA’s announcement that it will cease to recognise the standard after 31st December 2013. Meanwhile the Snell SA2000 standard will now be valid until 31st December 2014, rather than 1st January 2011 as stated in the 2010 Blue Book.

By the way (and nothing at all to do with this topic!), I'd like to thank UR for as usual wishing me 'Happy Birthday' a couple of weeks ago: I know it's set to do that automatically, but nontheless, it's a really nice touch: I'd just had a close bereavement and it cheered me up no end. Thanks Guys N Gals!

The BS standard blue label helmets have been defunct since Jan 1st 2010 for MSA licenced events. BS standard red label helmets are now still valid for events in UK, up to national level until 31st Dec 2015. These helmets will not be eligable for use in FIA events after 31st December 2013. Simples!

Will UR automatically send out wedding anniversary reminders, and flowers when 'erindoors starts complaining that you spend more time with the car than you do with her?

Definately a good idea.
Away from home all week, up at 2:15 to get home, showered and out to Harewood on saturday for 7:30 with a peck on her cheek on my way out as she woke up and grunted at me.
Home by 6:00 knackered.
Paid penance sunday with a trip to B&Q. Uurgh.
