Hill Descents!!

Having just read about Kames ability to run in forward and reverse directions (East Ayshire car Club Website) caused me to wonder how many other venues have been run in reverse?
This could be a novel concept in as much as a hill climb would then become a "hill descent" or downhill sprint.
Harewood has one section down Thompson Straight which is downhill and demands a different approach to braking and cornering when entering the esses.
Running the whole hill downwards I believe would be feasible at Harewood with a bit of re-arrangement of Recticel barriers etc.
Has anyone any knowledge of this being done at other tracks/venues?

Richard

Knockhill used to host a hillclimb which used part of the circuit in the reverse direction.

Interesting and novel approach to the idea of sparkling things up. I know that Aintree originally ran 'backwards', but it was found very difficult getting round Beechers because of the shape and approach to the corners, the slow in fast out approach didnt work so I was told a long time ago. I know that Oulton Park and Brands Hatch have run races in reverse and in both cases were find to be quicker. I fact I believe it to be true that in period, karts were going round O/P faster in 'reverse' than SMBH on the 500 MV going the normal direction.....

Pembrey has been run in reverse direction on Sunday events untill new pit lane was built.
Was Great fun but no runoff area in reverse so maybe not as quick as could be.

Start times should be interesting from the finish line around quarry and the brakes better be good over the start line

Yes Simon should be quite interesting!
Collect cars prior to start on short finish straight, then warm up tyres through Quarry, have the startline at bottom of Quarry with a downhill start (start as we mean to go on)
The finish could be just after the Clarks Corner at the top of Thompson Straight, that should give ample slowing down time before the current startline!
I've got some run videos taken from back of my car at the last meeting. I'll see if I can re-edit them to run in "reverse" which should give some indication of what a downhill sprint would be like.

I thought it was the changes to Debeni, in particular the Armco round the outside in front of the Paddock that stopped the reverse direction running. Something to do with potentially hitting it head-on on the very end!

Brands Hatch also ran in the 'wrong direction' in the early days.

Didn't they also hold "Hillclimb" meetings at Cadwell Park where I think they ran up from the foot of the Mountain, through Mansfield & then up the Gooseneck to Park Corner?

There was a 'speed event' course where the Start Line was also the finishing line. The cars set off went 'up the hill' and at the top there was a hairpin that cut back on itself and the competitors then proceeded to race back to the start which when they passed through doubled as the finishing line. I think it was at Baring?

Stapleford also ran circuit races and hillclimbs but I think they both ran in the same direction?

I think they might need to introduce the concept of a 'stop astride' at the finish if Shelsley were to adopt this fresh approach. Could be something of a leveller for those in lower powered cars...
