Hillclimb slicks
Can anyone give me an estimate of the number of events/heat cycles you can put through a set of Avon A15 compound hill climb slicks before the performance starts falling away? Car is a Caterham with around 200ish bhp, weighing 550kg.
Thanks, Robbie. |

I run my avon A15s on the datsun for around 3 seasons.
Avon say that 3 heat cycles and they start falling off their best I am sure others will give other views |

There is never going to be a definitive answer on this sort of question - Surely it all depends on how hard they are worked? Newer will almost certainly be faster but is it a good way to spend £500 for a pair? Personally, I've never seen them "shagged" on the back of a car in the way that A45's or ninety-somethings on the front can be after 1 run.
I'd sooner replace my softer fronts every year than change the A15 rears more than once every 5-10 years - as usual no data to back this up.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like I should be able to complete a season of around a dozen events without them falling to bits.
Cheers, Robbie |

I was told that if the tyre surface was 'petrol/purple then that was them finished with.
I had this with my Kumho softs, but also with A15 slicks on my Impreza. Both types of tyre were on car 2 x heavier than yours and the Impreza 360 bhp. |
