laptop infected.

I've got a virus ? on my laptop.
Files are missing
Hompage loads and Google searches are ok until I click on a link from the search, then it redirects in a random manner.
Avg keeps getting deleted.
System restore only goes back to end of may.
If I search in the Avg bar, I don't have the redirect problem in the results.
Any help much appreciated.

Simon

Rings a bell, though not happened to me. Check in the AVG support pages, preferably from a clean computer, and make sure your AVG is up to date.

Latest Virus DB version is 1513/3701, AVG version is 10.0.1382.

Forget AVG in this instance as it is malware.

Download latest from Malwarebytes.org
Install under admin rights and run.
Follow directions.

Software found 20 infections on a quick scan. Full scan to follow when I have time, but thanks for the info in the meantime, much appreciated. Problem still exists.

I was moving my millions from Switzerland to the Cayman Islands at the time..

Did you do an update definitions first? That is importanmt as if you only have the latest release it wont have a later definitions file that relates to your particular infection

I have seen this many times on customers machines. it comes from the AntiVirus 2008 - 11 family and is well known
Redirects are one of its symptoms. Go into Internet Options> Connections and check under LAN if a proxy has been added. If so remove it.

No.
I downloaded and got runtime error 0 and 440 consecutively when installing.
Red crossing them allowed the install, but they re-appeared when trying to run the program and it wouldn't start.
I uninstalled and re-installed it, then pulled the connection so couldn't update it.
Right click on the download for location, then run as administrator.
It installed and ran. The program is 16 days old, so once I've run a full scan, I'll try the auto update.

Seems to have got hold of IE. With avg and Firefox the intrusion is held back.

I'll post an update when I have a result.

Still having the same problem despite several full scans with malwarebyte.
If I use my mobile as a WiFi hotspot and uninstall the dongle software, will the malware function ?

Hey ho, my p.c is also gone t*ts up as well and seems to be similar to symptoms described above. Malware scanned everything and it all came up clean. I could open my pc, but as from Monday, someone is telling me to press xyz and download something to clear all the 29 bugs it has found. I am not going to press anything until i know exactly what is going on. I suspect it is some one trying to access my pc. I have been to the bank and asked them to cancel my online banking and am writing this from a safe computor in the library. Watch this space.....

Managed to cure the problem with the latest AVG 30 day trial of their full package.

A test of their integrity when the trial expires in 30 days
