A large airborne object

Vulcan 020.jpg

Those with their mind on higher things may be interetsed to know.....

I was in the garden on Saturday and heard the sound of multiple jet engines. Thinking it might be the Red Arrows on their way to Copsford it looked to the skys and saw the Vulcan with 2 VC10's in close vic formation.

Sure enough the Vulcan was at Cosford, piloted by the pilot who commanded the Vulcan on Operation Black Buck. It was agreat day out.

Was anyone else there or were you all at Loton?

Nice shot of the Vulcan!

The Vulcan and 2 x DC10 in formation was actually part of the Queen's flypast in London on Saturday and they also displayed at Cosford as well.

In fact the Vulcan only got it's aircraft display license on the day before. It did 1 practice display at Cosford and then went down to Brize Norton where it did 2 displays over 45 minutes then landed.

Let's hope the Vulcan to the Sky trust can keep getting money from the public to keep this aircraft flying, otherwise it's either a) mothball it or more likely b) sell it to a private collector in the US. If the latter happened I can't imagine it would ever fly this side of the pond again.

Here are a few shots from the fenceline at the end of the runway at Brize from Friday. I am envious of the blue sky in your shots, weather on Friday was overcast.

Nice pics Alistair.
Saw her last year and the year before after the refit. Hopefully catch her again soon.As many of you know I have followed it avidly since Dave Walton bought her to Bruntingthorpe and at one time I never thought she would fly again.

All we need now is Roly Falk flying her in his dinner jacket just like old times.

Better still if we could find an Air Show date where she is flying that doesn't clash with the BHC and BSC we could not only see the Vulcan but a lot of other stuff!

Yes an airshow date that doesn't clash with the BHC is a good idea.

Some possibilities from http://www.vulcantothesky.org/FlightOperations.asp
11 Jul - Yeovilton
18 Jul - 19 Jul - Fairford - RIAT (classes with Guernsey)
20 Sep - Goodwood Revival

There are some other dates that just clash with MHC meetings. There arn't many free weekends.

As much as I like my hillclimbs, RIAT Fairford is well worth missing one!

The only other problem with the Vulcan is that it is one of the most complicated civil licensed aircraft so it only takes a minor problem and she is grounded until repairs and a safety inspection can be carried out. Her diversion to Brize last season is a case in point.

Still, fingers crossed to see her flying at the Kemble air day this weekend and another set of fingers crossed for blue skies!
