I completed basic training at Swinderby in the eighties. The passing out parade included a flypast from a Lightning which went vertical over the parade ground.
About 300 of us stood there at "present arms" feeling the heat and smelling the exhaust wash whilst trying not to look up. That was the second run. On the first, it came in low from behind the unsuspecting crowd of proud parents. Watching 500 heads "duck" in unison when it arrived was hilarious. First posting after trade training was Marham where the RAF kept, and practiced with the last Vulcan. Everything shook when that went vertical. Brilliant.

Yes I hope so too. Word has it that Pilbeam Mick is in line for the mechanics job and Haynes have produced a workshop manual especially for him.

I agree but better than the usual evening TV offered for the delectation of the proletariat. Loads of mistakes in the production but there you go.

re
I thoroughly enjoyed watching the programme. I was more than intrigued by the method of how they worked out the order in which the tankers refuelled each other and the Vulcans.....
