Does this mean that in theory I am not allowed to run the Sierra 205 type block in my Escort - as in historic rallying? oops...

I have 3 x NE and 2 x 205 blocks in the workshop and cant see the differance. These are NA engines and I believe the later 205 blocks had injection heads. Up to recently only the NE block was allowed in FF2000 and Sports 2000, however it is my belief that the later 205 blocks can now be used because of the shortage of suitable blocks. These are currently being used in the US and Canada.

It looks exactly the same and is still known as a pinto but is a bit stronger - the old type blocks are like rocking horse poo to find, especially on a standard bore. I think some common sense should prevail here due to the scarcity and cost of some of the original parts. Personally I have no problem with people running mi16 engines in mod prod peugeot 205s as it is a cost effective way of making them quick without really bending the rules. The main thing is to make the rules consistent so everyone knows where they stand.

I suppose it should be the same block according to the rules - I wonder if this regulation has ever been tested in protests? in general law that often clarifies previous uncertainties

We need to sort this out without having recourse to protests. At present the regulations governing all elements of Speed Events are under review. What competitors need to do is talk firstly to their club committees and express their concerns. They should formulate constructive suggestions and submit these through their regional committees. After all if you don't then you may end up stuck with some draconian regs that don't work and end up alienating fellow competitors.

Please dont think I am suggesting that this be protested, I'm not - I was just wondering if there was a central database of protests and their outcomes - this is very common in law and debates state authority from rulings all the time

There are only so many types of cars out there that are competing and for a specialist in any marque, its very obvious what fits and what doesnt with the rules - it wouldn't take long to make it very clear what is and what is not acceptable to clarify these grey areas

We could even have ballots and cases put for and against the point under discussion, and then we decide what is acceptable and what is not

Is it ok for a Mk1/2 escort to run a ford 205 block? yes or no.
Is it ok for a pug 205 to run a complete Mi16 engine? yes or no

If these questions had been tested and the results stored somewhere centrally, that would be a very useful resource

Maybe this could be decided on whether the offending article is deemed to give a performance advantage. In our two examples, in my opinion, no advantage is gained. If the 205 pinto block was made of alloy for instance obviously this would give an advantage and should not be allowed.

Stop trying to make reasonable suggestions, the MSA rules are there to be followed unquestionably.

descent is not tolerated (or at least ignored)

They don't tolerate descent? ---- does that mean we can't even go down fighting?
