If you ever saw a Kart going up the finish straight at Shelsley you would know why

Yes but they were spectacular even if they did disappear into the trees at certain events, Karts are still used in the Channel Islands which is good to see.

There were several Motus Mk7 Chassis made and campained on the hills back in the seventies( I think they were outlawed to run on the karting scene because karts with full suspension were a development the regulating body did not want. Dud Moseley would be able to give the full story on that particular aspect) I can remember three at one time all entered by the then notorious 'Walsall Wood Mafia', Ray, 'Hertz' and 'Slick'. I became an honourarary member by developing my own 'Trackstar'. I aquired 4 Motus chassis at the end of that period including the ex Ray Rowan chassis. That one I think went to a competitor somewhere down Dorset way but wasn't seen again. The other 3 were bought by a guy who intended to make them into run-arounds for his children, a dreadful loss in hindsight. The Trackstar itself was converted back to a regular 'Super-kart' spec and sold on.
I agree that Karts are an obvious 'missing link' on the Hillclimb scene, and would be a great opportunity to get youngsters involved with a non-gearbox class.

I am sure a single chassis/engine option could be included as a seperate class but would need the MSA to approve it. It would be a great introductory level for our sport and might get some young blood into the sport.

Personally I think its a required element to have a missing link to climb aboard one of the things and hurl it up SW

I was in the old offices of David Wilson Homes to day and on the wall was a couple of pictures of Dud Moseley driving the Motus, what a coincidence.

motus kart

Carrying on the Motus kart theme . I hillclimbed a Motus kart during the 1979
season at Prescott and Gurston Down . It was one of the ex Dowson Karts which I had rebuilt over the winter . They were not populer with the RAC or some of the other drivers . I had great fun that season till the Bultaco engine blew up at Prescott. I fitted a Suzuki twin engine in its place
for 1980 but by then the Rac were rumoured to be banning karts so sold it and bought a JW4 rolling chassis off Tim Cameron . Have enclosed some of the only photos I have in black and white from Gurston Down .Has anybody got any photos hidden away of me at Prescott or Gurston during 1979. Thankyou James Ebdon
