MSA launches Code of Conduct
Just received this from the MSA, does anybody have anything to add, tongue in cheek or not?
Seems that I can no longer have a conversation with my friends as most of what I say will be classified as abuse. The chap on Gate A will have to watch his step too. MSA launches Code of Conduct to improve standards of behaviour The Motor Sports Association has unveiled a Code of Conduct in a bid to improve behaviour at motor sport events. The new Code has been incorporated into the 2009 Blue Book on page 75, under paragraph 49 of the National Sporting Code and the governing body is now urging all competitors and officials to acquaint themselves with the wording before the season begins. The MSA is also warning those that do not adhere to the spirit of the Code that they will be dealt with as severely as possible by the authorities. Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive: "We have been seeing a rise in anecdotal reports of bad behaviour at events and that is clearly not acceptable. The MSA has a duty to protect everyone involved in motor sport, so we are making it clear to everyone what is expected of them. This applies not only to licence holders, but also to teams, supporters and of course MSA officials. Motor sport events will always be competitive environments, but it should be possible to compete hard and retain respect for others at the same time." The code: MSA Code of Conduct The Motor Sports Association expects you, and your associates, at all times to: * Abide by the MSA regulations * Respect the decisions of event officials * Treat all competitors, marshals and officials equally with respect * Maintain the highest standards of driving behaviour * Conduct yourself in a proper manner at all times and always behave in the best interests of UK motor sport * Make every effort to minimise the impact of your activities on the environment around you Abuse The Motor Sports Association will not tolerate any form of abuse or aggression towards officials, marshals, spectators and competitors. The Motor Sports Association and the National Court will impose the most stringent sanction against any transgression. Safety You are reminded that participation in motor sport carries an inherent risk and the ultimate responsibility for safety lies with the individual. The Motor Sports Association urges you to make the maximum possible effort to ensure your own safety at all times.

If Gate A is the main gate into Shelsley then I agree. I have been a bit shocked at how some people have been shouted at. Got stopped myself to check my membership pass was really mine, not that I mind, but was made to feel like I was in the wrong. I can't see many people getting to that gate without paying so, as an outsider, it appears to not be a great welcome. On the other hand I shouldn't complain when I wouldn't volunteer to do it as it must be quite boring. Someone's idea of using Scouts sounded good to me.
Sorry for the moan. This has bugged me for a while and guess it was waiting for a thread to vent it on - assuming Gate A isn't something totally different! Quote:

FLoads and others will confirm that you are correct, Gate A is the main gate into Shelsley.
Your comments are noted with thanks and are almost identical to other feedback received. I think it probably was me you heard talking about using a local Scout Group The gates at Doune are manned by Scouts and it works very well. Iranoff

Well I guess that means I'm not a grumpy old bloke - or at least not the only grumpy old bloke!
Probably was either you or Phil talking about scouts. I just remembered the other event of two competitors in race suits coping it for not having passes when coming back in, they weren't too impressed. It sounds like more focus is going to be put on the competitor's carpark/entrance this year which seems more productive.

Take a tip from Guernsey, none of our spectators have to pay and our officials provide their services gratis....for the love of our sport etc etc.... ah well, can't see me being allowed to commentate anymore under these rules as someone is bound to twist what we say at some stage.......

ive been 'challenged' before in my racing romper suit at the gate. having explained that i dont dress like an extra from 'Rory the Racing Car' when im not competing, i was grudgingly let off with a warning. i was light hearted in my responses and just assumed it was the ingestion of excessive tyresmoke/exh fumes that had made said Gent less than happy...

Yep, for once Gippo, you're actually right.....but then that is only for those people who do not wish walk to the top from a free parking zone and by not doing it you are not restricted from seeing the event.
