Everyone SIGN it!!!!
This would open up a huge realm of possibilities for some superb events in the future. Think of the European hills, and the length of some of the Irish hills in use on closed roads, and you can begin to see how important it is that we get this pushed through. It's not just hillclimbs either. Tarmac rallying will also benefit. It only takes a minute. Here. http://www.petition.co.uk/MSA Thanks

I've signed it, though can't see it happening with any government as it would upset the vole's.

Thought this was worth a bump since, although I must read it here & in Speedscence, I didn't actually do anything about it. I finally got around to signing it today & saw that it only has 6,000 signatures. Since there are 2000? speed licence holders in the UK and ~1300 users of this site I can only imagine others are as useless & lazy as I am. So, just to make it easy, here is the link again:
http://www.petition.co.uk/msa C'mon, press the button, & start moaning about a Tory government for a change

In fact there are over 4000 competitors with valid licenses that can compete in Speed Events.
Then there are the Rally License holders so the figure must surely top the 6000 mark?

If this comes to pass I can only see it biting us in the ar*e. Some one is going to have to pay for all this and there will only be one winner, again the MSA. First, they will be charging for track inspections, then taking money from the local authority, (as a levy on the spectator entry fees,) who was silly enough to prepare a couple of miles or so of road (dont lets mess about with a 1000 yards of track) to motor sport standard, level the man hole covers etc, make available a suitable piece of tarmac for paddock and facilities. No doubt the organising clubs will have to dig deep into their already half empty coffers. If these new public road events take off, I can see lots of the smaller tracks going down the tubes.................

Red, you do some EU events - any idea why wouldn't work here?

re
Dennis, I have competed in France on quite a few occasions and it is fantastic, but the budgets involved are enormous. However, the sponsorship the events attract are are unbelievable and there is nothing in the UK to even get near. Entry fees are kept to the £100 mark, this is for a 2 day event with, on occasions free practice on Saturday morning. The practice and timed runs dont normally start until after lunch and the event usually finish's about 7. pm. St. Goueno in particular lays free entertainment on every evening and meals in the salle de fete at a moderate charge. Ecurie de Mene puts on free meals for GB Masters Thursday arrivals. Most events in France will have more than adequate paddock facilities and power laid on for every one to plug into without fear of shutting the local village down. If the organisers of closed road based events can get some kind of sponsorship, then it would be worthwhile as I am sure this type of 'long' distance event would be well supported by the competitors. On the continent, all the local communes get involved and if this can happen here it would be great.
