Robs car is a little wider on the hips as the chap i built it for also complained of the narrowness. If you are coming over to the factory you will need a hip shave to get in the new car

Ah -what is the new car's model number? Is it a broadly similar format to my one?

Bob got the engine wired up and took the plugs out before turning it over (to blast out any debris from when it was laid up outside for a long period with one or more spark plugs removed).

A jerry can of fuel was then used to do a first start of the engine (only for a short period as no cooling system is currently fitted). The engine sounded very crisp/responsive (and loud, with only a makeshift exhaust!).

We hope to upload a video of it starting up soon.

This was never fully fitted in the car by the previous owner(s) so it is a great milestone to have it running for the first time...

Glad to hear it's coming on well John, do you aim to hillclimb/sprint in 2012?

Gary

Cheers Gary, Yeah, I'd love to do some HC or sprinting in due course. I'm deployed for 4mths from end of Oct so will be back in time for the 2012 season, hopefully. I take it that the seatbelts it originally competed with in the 80s will need to be replaced to comply with Scrutineering? Will it need an extinguisher system or an FIA Ign cut off?

Here's the vid of it running...

Fit whatever Rob Capper has had fitted. He has got that car of his going faster than it has ever gone with what he has done to it development-wise over the last two seasons.

Plus he is the only person regularly competing/running a honeycombe version like yours!

Cooling system leaks sorted -finished.
Dashboard to be trimmed/remanufactured to make bodywork fitted
Now Painted in primer.

We may get all the front suspension & rear end powder coated in years to come, after the car has been run/shaken down and we've finished cutting/shutting it!

Needs rear dampers & suspension setting up before wheel bearings and CV joints can be checked.
Rear wing to be bolted on

I wanted to modify an earlier post about the car's spec but the forum won't let me do that for some reason, so I'll just post the update below:

EXHAUST
Stainless ‘4 into 1’ header pipes
Stainless exhaust can (from a Suzuki SV650 Twin) –road legal so it is a bit quieter than a better suited can (e.g. Bob’s Akrapovic carbon race can)

Here's a separate thread to explore the question of which Dampers & Springs to go for...
