New to Hill climbing

Hello
A friend and I have purchased a hill climb prepared MG Midget and as we live in the Southampton area wondered if there suitable nearby location where we can go and practice.
We have booked a day's learner course at Gurston in May but want to have a play before then.
Any advice appreciated and also are there any other hill climbers in the Locks Heath (Southampton) area.
Thanks
JD

Tom New is down your way, he also does good car prep work should you need it.

There's a small circuit associated with Haynes Motor Museum, Sparkford, Somerset which you can hire. Further afield you could use Llandow, to the west of Cardiff. If you are an HSA member there is an unofficial test day there on the 21st February, details on the forum

New to Hillclimbing

Really pleased to read your message that you have bought a hillclimb MG.
I have competed on the hills for many years with a Midget (far too long, many people would think). I live in Wiltshire, not very far from you.

I would be glad to link up with you, if you would like to give me a telephone call on 01985 840830.

Good luck.

Another Wiltshire resident here, and work down in Southampton.. Hillclimbed a bog standard 1500 Midget in the early 2000's and wish I'd kept the car / did more events at the time. I was slow, but excellent fun. Returning in a Panda 100HP this season.

I've done the Gurston day, and it's very good. You get lot's of hill time. Have you looked at "MGs on track"?? Not certain of the 2012 calendar but they have events at Castle Combe and Goodwood. Would be a good first time / relaxed track event.

If you're happy to come up to Castle Combe, then there's the Great Western Sprint next month. Regs will be out shortly on the Bristol Motor Club website.

From that, I assume the car is road legal (the Gurston day's don't allow non road-legal cars) ... so if it is, then you can get some "practice" by driving it (carefully) on the roads...

Thanks popped in to the Haynes Museum on the way back from Devon last weekend, they are currently renovating and expanding until next year the track will be used as a car park. They have however sent me details, cheers for the tip.
