News from the MSA
Just had an email from the MSA to announce the following:
(1) Taster events: Motor Sports Council approved new regulations that permit MSA-registered clubs to organise taster events to encourage first-time participation in motor sport. This was considered to be of great importance to the growth of the sport’s grassroots, in line with the MSA’s Go Motorsport campaign to encourage involvement at all levels. The new regulations in full can be accessed on the MSA website. (2) Competition numbers: New Circuit Racing regulations were approved that allow competition numbers to be moved to vehicles’ rear side windows, subject to approval by the MSA. The new regulations in full can be accessed on the MSA website.

I thought the regs on number locations had already changed, if not does that mean that all the 2011 BTCC runners that had them on the rear side windows should have been disqualified?

Proposed Regulation
D4.5.6. Clubs may organise no more than one event of each type prescribed in 4.5. per calendar year as a “Taster Event” where, provided the MSA has granted specific approval, members of unrecognised clubs or members of the public may participate but not officiate and will be deemed to be a member of the club for the day. Taster Event. An entry level competition where to encourage first time participation in Motorsport, participants will be deemed to be a member of the club for the day. Clubs may organise no more than one of each type of prescribed event per year to recruit new members and participants. Reason: The proposed wording would allow a club to run one event of each appropriate discipline in the course of the year that could be open to non-members of a motor club and general members of the public while still operating under an MSA permit. Date of Implementation: 1st January 2012. i.e. no relaxation of the safety regs, only the membership.

So can you just turn up in your car, pay £20, no license, no scrutineering, and have a play at Shelsley Walsh for the day?
If I don't renew my license will I become eligible for these "taster" events as "someone new to the sport"? ![]() ![]() ![]()

It only waives the club membership requirement according to Radical's post. I would assume that means it's aimed at allowing cheap entry to clubman events that don't require a licence like AutoSolo, trials, autotests and navigational events. I'm not sure I see the benefit though, as clubs can already run those events by offering discounted club membership for the day.
