Funny you should say that. It seems the fuel used, has caused valve seat damage though not lubrication. How much power it was down by goodness knows, just means i'll have to drive it again when fixed to see what its like with full power ![]() Dave |

After sending Shell an email about my problems with detonation damage they assure me they will be doing some tests on the fuel from the station where i bought it. I have made the point that it is happening to other people around the country and it's probably unlikely to be an isolated incident. For anyone with similar isues I urge you to do like me and send shell (fuel quality dept) an email.

I seem to remember there was a problem back in the 1980's with Shell fuel when used in the then new engine for the Cavalier, I seem to remember the formula having to be changed as GM refused to meet the warranty claims it the engines had been run on Shell. I believe Shell ended up paying out to owners who suffered engine damage.

Quality fuel.
May I suggest you buy your fuel from F1 fuels ,give Roger Wise a ring and your troubles are over. Pump fuel in the UK is considered by many who should know the lowest standard in Europe, when I was involved with FMC the tecnical guys and all the factory engineers were allways carping on about the Uk's poor quality fuel standards, so I guess this just proves they were correct in thinking that.

Engine now back from rebuild and going back in, for Gurston this weekend.
Valve seats on the inlets only had worn, allowing the valve clearences to close up and eventually hold the valve open. Car was mapped on V power , will changing to the F1 pump fuel make much difference to the mapping ? Dave |
