OMS 2000M / PR suspension
Have just received the latest rule changes from MSA and it states under (J) competitors :vehicles that 5.2.1Be fitted with bodywork including a driver(and passenger) compartment isolated from the engine ,fluid filled batteries, gearbox, hydraulic reservoirs, transmission shafts, chains ,belts and gears, brakes , road wheels, suspension components including their operating linkages and attachments,petrol/fuel tanks, oil tanks, water header tanks, catch tanks and fuel system components other than where such components comply with J5.13.1 and J5.13.2
This I imagine would affect where the 2000M bottom front wishbone, rear mount is fitted inside the cockpit . Can anyone more technically minded than me come up with a good idea how we can cover this in , but still be able to check the bolt holding everything in place and the lock nut on the adjustment which can have a tendency to vibrate loose occasionally. ![]() Steve Elliott |

A small carbon/Aluminium cover held in place with velcro? the rules don't seem to state how the isolation panel is constructed or held in place.

I too spotted this in the new rles section of the mag that came in teh post the other day. Looking at the single seaters in the paddock at Doune at the weekend, there's not many cars that will be legal without some mods needed.
Most of the full carbon-tub cars are ok, but not many. My own opinion is that if you have to add weight in the form of "isolation" panels, you may as well use that weight to make the car safer/stiffer and look at making these new additions either structural (if needed) or as "anti-instrusion" panels (to stop wishbone ends etc casuing you damage in the event of a stuff). does this apply to new builds ? or are existing chassis exempt......my Jedi doesn't comply with some reg about feet being behind front axle line, but is exempt....least I think so as I've never been excluded for non compliance.....

spaceframes with inboard suspension
Looking at the wording a lot of spaceframe single seaters are going to have a problem especially cars with inboard suspension (including about 95% of all 150 or so Formula Fords at the Walter Hayes Festival!).
Spaceframe cars usually only have a single bulkhead behind the driver with suspension components, batteries, hydraulic reservoirs and radiators sited around the driver compartment. I wonder who thought this one through? A good time to have shares in an aluminium wholesaler! |
