Origins

Tony Fletcher firstly approached the BMSA to ask if we would object to him bidding to resurrect the British Sprint Leaders, however once Tony got into discussions with the MSA he decided to drop the Sprint Leaders title and he modified the title to reflect the geographical concentration.

As to how successful it will be, I am not sure. Especially seeing as so many areas of motor sport are seeing the number of competitors deminishing!

Mostly because oif rising costs - an area that championship organisers consistently fail to address. Ring any bells?

As described in the MAC News it is to encourage newcomers, particularly in production cars, and to use the 'traditional' sprint tracks deserted by the British Championship. The registration fee is very low. I would quote Hon Secs description but I am too idle to go and get the magazine at the moment.

Feel I've missed the origins of the origins on this one.

However, if Tony Fletcher does want to resurrect the Sprint Leaders I hope his company will make the regs a bit more easily available than he has done for the hillclimb equivalent.

Just how difficult is it to publish this on the web these days?

If he has done, please let me know where, because I gave up looking ages ago.

I am violently in favour of encouraging everyone in every type of car to use all sorts of tracks with low registration & entry fees.

To do this requires publicity beyond MAC News. The subjects of participation & costs have been widely aired. Can anyone cut & paste the suggestions onto here or anywhere else for that matter?

Why does this all appear to go on behind closed doors?

One would expect any competent organisers to be doing just that in respect of publicity etc. It appeared in MAC News as, just that, news for MAC members which is what the MAC News is for. The 'promoters' for want of a better word are listed as MAC, HSA, Owen Motor Club and the Nottingham club because they, I suppose, stage their sprints at the venues mentioned i.e Curborough, MIRA and Barkston Heath. I would suppose that information will appear in the other club magazines/newsletters.
As well as the usual classes there are to be ones for Roadgoing Production and Roadgoing Specialist Production cars.

No idea, but you're right that it does need to become more transparent and much more widely publicised.

What are you moaners all wittering about. Someone has got off their backside and done something. Not as if the Sprint game is overloaded with new championships now, is it?
Seems a perfectly logical step to me for the organising clubs as it will fill out their Sprints, so of which were suffering from a fall in numbers.

Seems to me that the MAC News was the 1st publication issued upon release of the news and thereby it broke there 1st..

Nobody ever built a statue to a critic so if you feel something needs organising why not have a go yourself.

Sorry to report but you can only get regs by post!

One has to appreciate that costs rise anyway no matter what the Championship Organisers do. After all we cannot force the clubs to set their entry fees lower, we are stuck with the associated MSA costs which rise year on year, plus of course any spares for even a humble two litre racing car do have a tendancy to rise!
