Petition about Road Fund Tax
Please consider signing this petition:
A Rolling 25 Years Free Road Fund Tax The concept behind the petition is to make it a rolling 25 years rather than just for cars built before 1973. Thanks.

That was how it was introduced, the problem they found was thousands of cars which had been off the road suddenly were registered again, people were selling the V5 and putting the chassis plate and reg on their newer car so they didn't have to pay tax.
A good example of this was the land rover and range rover where they hadn't changed the look of the model very much for 20+ years so the swap over was easy to do without arousing suspition, even now if you look at some quite obvious late model defenders, every so often you will see one with a 1960's number plate. |

I would love this to happen but I think in the current economic climate there's about as much chance of the government agreeing to this as there is of them admitting they are wrong and running naked round parliament square shouting "vive la revolution"

There are far too many of these zero tax cars running about. I suggest that the system was completely abused and as had been suggested, it will happen again. The proper solution is to remove the road fund licence completely and put an appropriate amount on the fuel. Those who use the cars a lot pay more, those who dont pay less.

I actually have a (genuine) 1971 ex-military 109 Land Rover, has been with me for the last 26 years... I frequently see a coil-sprung Defender 90 Td5 that was apparently constructed in 1969. The abuse is out there for all to see.
I'm *surprised* that the tax-exemption is still static and running, let alone seeing a campaign to have it rolling. I agree that attempts to extend it will fall on deaf ears, or should I say deaf ears that have 10-15 years of a debt-fuelled greed binge to try and cover up/pay for. I shall however give the matter my support, hell, I went on a motorcycle rally/demonstration last weekend over anti-tampering EU measures. Resistance, however *is* futile, but I shall be never be assimilated. |

i do 800 miles a year in my high emmisions jeep and pay £280 odd quid in tax but the old grannie over the road who does 150000 miles a year in her little ssh1treon c1 running all her cronnies up and down from the bingo every night and she pays no road tax so who pollutes the atmosphere the most well its not me its the fcuk1ng old grannie because she does more miles , so why should i have to pay more road vehicle tax as redturner37 says it should be added to the fuel so she who uses her car more pays more road tax |

Slagging off grannies who do 150,000 miles a year is a bit pointless since I doubt there are any &, what exactly do you have against your grannies anyway?
BTW, I too would like to move road fund tax to fuel tax - but on the grounds that the polluter should pay.

If the moved the tax (more tax) on to fuel then we would be paying for it when racing

Rebated fuel oil is still available and I believe that rebated gasoline is still available if pumped direct into a boat and also available for site machinery. I am thinking on the lines of some-one turning up at a meeting with a none road legal car with a diesel engine using gas oil. Trouble is, there is always some-one who will try it on....
