Well after a full 10 days away from the car (enabled the team to take stock of where we want to go with the car) we are going to be back at it from saturday, with a long list of things to address but most important we now have the software/laptop and lead, so at least we can take a look at what has been going on with the engine, fingers crossed the data logger is still working, having located some small cracks in the exaust manifold the decision has been taken to strip the whole system down so we can take a detailed look to comfirm any other problems if they exist, the turbo`s and pipe work is in for a thourgh overhaul as well as the fuel system, so a busy couple of weeks ahead, the plan is to have it ready for shelsley walsh end of august, so fingers crossed, John get those new tyres ordered, LOL

Will update with photo`s along they way as and we find any problems.

Regards,

John

Another 4 hrs of research in the bank, (what the hell am I doing) it would appear Cosworth tried there own version of the XD with twin turbos, the feed back is very interesting, can now see where Willem was going with this project.

Regards,

John

According to Cosworth the mechanical fuel pump should be good for in excess of 4 bar/60psi, but the flow rate is still under investigation as to wether it can supply sufficent supply of fuel, also the present setup with the pci injectors, ( could infact be over fueling) as they were designed to be installed infront of the turbo`s.

John

Well all has not gone well this w/e, (problems with the wife`s car, (electics would you belive), now sorted) Leaving home later than expected, I arrived to find Phil was already at John`s, the kettle only having just boiled ment a welcome cup of tea was available, which gave us time to chat about the plan of attack, first job was to unload the car from the trailer and get it into the workshop, having done this we found the battery was flat, so the need to charge it before we could hook up the laptop, so we could down load the data, so as to take a look at what has been going on.

So we set about a list of things that needed looking at,

Side pod`s removed for asessment with regards to what repairs needed to be carried, this came to more than 5, not good.

A look at the under tray revealed also work was need.

The front wing lower plane trailing edge is delaminated on the righthand side, there is minor wear and tear to the winglets and the underside deflectors

All of the above will go to the Aerofoil repair shop at my place of work for repair were possible.

This ongoing project has know come to a cross roads, having connected the laptop to the car`s ecu, (after first checking the wiring) the info came back on the screen that the software could not read the encrypted data, we now have 2 choices, of which i have left in the hands of the owner, giving my input as to which way we should go.

On a more positive note Willem has full faith in the team getting on top of this blip, that he has placed an entry for Gurston on the 28/29th of aug.

No pressure then.

Regards,

John

Good luck with sorting the car guys.

I will be travelling to Shelsley from Malta end of August so I hope to see you guys there with the car.

If the data logger in the ecu doesnt work, you can buy a Innovate LM-2 for under 300 GBP. I use one of these to log TPS, boost, revs, air/fuel ratio whilst tuning the map. You can also use it to log other parameters aswell like fuel pressure, inlet air temperature etc. Like this you would know whether the fuel pump is sufficient as you would see a drop in fuel pressure in the log.

What fuel are you running on, or do you run on methanol?

Joshua,

Thanks for the wishes, look forward to meeting up with you, all noted on the info you suggested, yes the car runs on methanol + additive.

Regards,

John

I thought the ruling was pure methanol only no additives are permitted?

Cheers

Rich
