Prescott Rescue
I would like to send my thanks to all the marshals, rescue crews and officials involved in my incident at Prescott on Sunday. Everyone acted with great professionalism and calmness while extracting me from the car and then returning both the car and I to the paddock. My recollection of the immediate aftermath is that my language was somewhat colourful. My apologies to anyone who heard this as my greatest concern at the time was for the condition of the Pilbeam! In my view the rescue teams could not have done anything more. It was also a great help receiving reassurance from the many familiar faces. And thanks to all the drivers who came to offer their commiserations in the paddock.
While sliding sideways towards the tyres it was entirely clear in my mind that driver error was to blame. My choice of gear shift location was a poor one in slippery conditions. The data shows that I managed to lift the throttle one third of a second after the gear shift, but this wasn’t enough to prevent the slide. On first inspection the car looks relatively simple to repair. At this late stage though it feels wise to enter the winter rebuild and be ready early for next year. See you all soon. Oliver

Glad to hear you're ok - it certainly sounded and looked like a pretty big off from where we were standing across from the entry to Etorres.

Which hurt the most: the side impact or being comforted by your mum in front of everyone?
Glad all is well, though I've no doubt you'll be sore for a week or two. |

The latter I have had to get used to. The former is one I hope I don't repeat!

Glad to hear your OK Ollie....
A winter rebuild will no doubt place a little less strain on both the wallet and those involved and seems to be a sensible option... Conditions were quite horrid so don't beat yourself up about what did or didn't cause it.... You walked away which is the most important thing... It's posts like yours that make it all worthwhile for me (and a lot of other marshals too I expect) .... To hear that when we do have to do something we do it right...

Watching from under my brollie above Orchard I was very impressed with the speed of response of the marshalls, and the rescue unit and ambulance, and equally delighted that it was the skills of the recovery team not the medical professionals that proved necessary. After the horrid noise of the Pilbeam's contact with the scenery two totally unimportant things stuck in my mind. The ambulance recorded a speed at Bridge of 24mph; and three previously tethered tyres slowly rolled across the bank, onto the short course and down to the lair of the tonka toy!
Glad you're OK Oliver and that the damage isn't too extensive. Andy |

You did look somewhat "vacant" when I spoke to you in the paddock afterwards but I am very glad you are okay...

its a nasty racing accident and good to hear that ollie is ok Only one thing I thought was poor was the fact that the tyre barrier preventing cars from making contact with the blunt end of the armaco I know that the forces of a crash are very high but it looked like they were just pushed with ease out of the way?! to expose well I will leave it there.
Good to hear all is well with the driver Cheers Richard |
