What production championship should I enter?

Hi,

for several good reasons I will not be competing in the MGCC speed championship this year but using my road car and doing some (8ish?) events in a different chapionship.

I will be using an absolutely bog standard Boxster S (3.2). I realise it doesn't fit the class system particularly well and therfore won't be particularly competitive but, when it stood in for the MG a few times last year it did cause the odd surprise.

Can people recomend a championship where there will be some competitors in the class and a scoring system that is likely to suit. To give an idea - at Harewood i was on a pa with a Morgan +8 and slightly slower than a diesel Golf (!).

I live in Norwich so everywhere is far away but I'd rather not do a championship too far west. Its not too bad at 5am on a Sunday - I got to Harewood in less then 3 hours - but Gurston was a bit of a treck.

Nottingham Sports Car CLub has a number of rounds that are not too big a trek for you.

Thought I'd get that in before redturner.

Gurston may be a treck for you but remember the excellent egg and bacon rolls, you have to factor that in.

Very true but its not as good as Loton's Breakfast butty.

Midland Speed Championship goes all over the place and is worthy of a look.

The catering at Curborough comes highly recomended and the food at Thoresby Park double header is to die for. M I R A is on the NSCC calender and it fairly handy to you as well.Thats 4 of your requirements, i'm sure we can find 4 more......

We have an invite to Mallory Park with BARC and an invite to MIRA with the BDC, could be your best decision this year so come and join us.

Chris

As has been mentioned the Midland Speed Championship will do 8 rounds using Curborough, Harewood, MIRA and Mallory ( the closest venues to you).
Last season that class was won by Simon Hutchinson in a Focus RS so there should be someone to compete against.

AEMC has Snetterton, Hethel and Honington, all of which are up your way.

Although you will be in the same class as 2x 911 GT3s. Which is one of the reasons I didn't campaign my Z4M Coupe.

Edit: just realized you're after Hillclimbs and not Sprints. Might be a bit ambitious considering you're in the flattest part of the country!

Thanks for all the answers so far.

I saw the GT3s when spectating at Hethel once. Slightly stiff competition.

The hard bit is thinking about which scoring system will be best and how many competitors they have. If I could compete for third behind the GT3s I might do all right overall. If I was trying to get a percentage of the GT3s' times, as some championships do, I'd be miles off. On the other hand, if I'm the only person who turns up in the class then I won't get any points, even if I "win" the class.

I do prefer the hills though I'm not adverse to sprinting, particualry as I think I'm less likely to damage the car if i get it wrong. However, I don't mind driving to get to the venues.

AEMC is time percentages I'm afraid. 100 minus the percentage over the 1st in class time is your score, so if you're 10% slower you get 90 points.

Have a look at the Porsche Club Speed Championship. There are 4 power based classes, close competition, and a varied calendar.

Cheers!
