A Question...

Now Autumn is upon us...

...and we reach the end of the season...

...the time has come to ask...

...possibly the most important question in this sport...

Are we having fun yet?

Must admit that I have had more fun in other years at hillclimbs.
Mainly due to the rather damp events that seem to have made up my season.
I ran out of dry spare clothes at least 3 times at Shelsley events this year, one occasion I had changed by 10:30 AM with 8 hours still to go in the rain and mud.
And I was a lucky one with at least a dry(ish) place, the PA room in Course Control, to shelter in rather than the boys and girls in orange who spent the days on the bank.
A big hand for them for sticking at it. I wouldn't have done it for a brass clock.

The last meeting was OK and we still have the postponed August meeting next month so hears hoping for a dry one.

Definately

I agree with Fireblade's points, a very wet season indeed. Highlights so far include a very pleasant weekend at Wiscombe and an exceptionally hot Brighton speed trials.

The rain at Shelsley was/is a bit of a downer, especially in July, when the rain was so hard on the startline that it soaked through a three layers in the space of ten minutes.

On the plus side, the PA office was drier than course control itself which developed a couple of leaks - prompting "the Daves" to resort to opening an umbrella indoors.

Hopefully October Shelsley will be bright and sunny!!

Crap year for me full stop.
I've managed to attend (and work at) one Shelsley and haven't so much as seen another venue apart from being set-out crew on SS5 on the Wyedean. Has to be my all time lowest attendance ever.
Hoping to be at the S.W. October meeting. Certainly need to be part of the glory that is a BSR-Janus partnership on the startline...

I haven't been to as many meetings this year but that was mainly due to lack of funds. Having said that alot of the weekends I was rather grateful for the lack of funds while I was sat at home in the dry

I wasn't necessarily going to be at SW in Oct but it is looking like an Uphill Racers outing so I may well have to put in an appearance

I did say dry(ish).Wasn't the cosiest place in the world but better than Finish Paddock or indeed Course Control where it was somewhat similar to a wet weekend on a leaky boat. Now we have dispensed with the valve amplifiers its cooler on a hot day but not so warm on wet day. At least you could always dry your coat on them. Think I might bring them out and just plug them in for the Diwali meeting.

Make sure you go as I hear that the site caretaker has some Uphill Racers badges to issue to registered members.

The seasons not over yet, but Ive had a great year...up here in Gods country the weather has ben kind, Elvington, Barbon and 3 Sister were all scorching hot, Harewood, Teesside and Kames were all warm sunshine...Knockhill was crap, but even Forrestburn wasnt wet (and if you know the venue you wont belive that, but its true!)......a great year with an event to go. Ive loved having a lairy little single seater, and the fancy engine sat in the garage awaiting its transplant makes me look forward to next year even more! Hopefully no one with a seriously quick single seater will turn up to my last event and I might even get BTDBTDBTD!

Is that an answer to the question posed in Fireblade's signature?

Wish I'd done Barbon - just didn't feel up for it. Better to do something & regret it rather than regret not doing it?

So you might be disappointed if I get a double drive in a quick single seater for Kames?

I know there have been better summers, but Shelsley in June, with Martin and Scott trading times and records, was superb.
