race seat insert (shared drive)

Question for those who do a shared drive.

Where can i get a "race seat insert" (i think thats what they are called)for my OMP race seat? Doing a shared drive on a track day with my missus in my car in September. She needs to come up and forward slightly in the seat.

Does anyone make such a thing or do you have to get creative?

Paul

Be creative with a bin liner and quick setting foam.

Totally agree with Floads answer. Just like to add 3 suggestions:

1) Have a champagne cork ready;
2) Obtain permission prior to fitment; and
3) If you need quick setting foam in a real hurry go to Wickes & ask for “multi-purpose expanding foam filler” (about 7 quid for 750 ml.), probably inflammable, certainly not the cheapest, stiffest or lightest, but conveniently situated for many hillclimbs

Where do you live? Its a very easy job if there's a couple of you, although it does have the potential to get very messy, very quickly!

I must of made at least 15 seats this season already (I buy seat foam by the gallon!) and my top tips are:

Use a bin bag with the end cut off and then tank tapped shut to give you a seam for the bottom (most bin bags are shaped to fit the bottom of bin making them a pain to work with unless you cut them and reseal them).

Don't try and mix it all in one go unless you are only making a very small seat, if you need to addd more you can do this once the first lot has set.

Once you've poured the mixture into the bottom of the bag, lay it on a flat surface and ensure that you spread it all over the bottom of the bag.

Before you sit into the bag allow the foam to start expanding and then use your weight to push it into the required area as you sit back into it.

I often end up with seats which are quite and fragile in some areas, if this happens I put down a couple of plys of fibreglass tissue to give the seat some strength.

PLUS wear old overalls/clothes incase the lot blows out as its awful to remove, if it gets in your hair it will need to be cut out
