Rds 3 & 4 at Ingliston

Saturday: despite a couple of cars visiting the showground's attractions everything went off well. A couple of no-shows meant there were just 11 BSC entries but it was great to see david seaton finally out in the MP43. Stewart Robb cruised to victory and maintained his lead.

Rd 3 SBD Motorsport MSA British Sprint Championship
1 Stewart Robb Snr (4.0 Pilbeam-Judd MP88) 38.32secs; 2 Colin Calder (3.5 Gould-Judd GR37) 38.90secs; 3 Mark Smith (2.0 SBD Reynard 903/DB-Mk01 Duratec) 39.05secs; 4 Steve Broughton (2.0 SBD Reynard 903/DB-Mk01 Duratec) 40.34secs; 5 Colin Birkbeck -2.0 Dallara-Vauxhall F301) 40.57secs; 6 Mike Musson (1.3t Force-Suzuki/Holeshot PT11) 44.10secs; 7 Eric Kiltie (1.4 OMS-Suzuki 2000M) 44.74secs; 8 Peter Howgate (3.2 Ralt-Judd RT37) 45.35; 9 David Seaton (4.9 Pilbeam-BMW MP43) 46.69secs; 10 Angus Buchan (1.3 Radical Clubsport+) 48.63secs; 11 Brian Woffenden (3.2 Ralt-Judd RT37) 49.61secs; no other qualifiers.

Sunday: Eric Kiltie, who had enjoyed his first ever BSC run-off, was a none-starter after a Paddock accident injured his foot & Heather Calder withdrew as she is in the middle of her university exams. So we were down to ten. This became seven when first Stewart Robb and then Steve Broughton suffered suspension failures. In the run-off Colin Calder took his maiden BSC victory whilst everyone else moved up the order.

Rd 4 SBD Motorsport MSA British Sprint Championship
1 Colin Calder (3.5 Gould-Judd GR37) 336.55secs; 2 Colin Birkbeck -2.0 Dallara-Vauxhall F301) 37.51secs; 3 Mike Musson (1.3t Force-Suzuki/Holeshot PT11) 38.26secs; 4 Peter Howgate (3.2 Ralt-Judd RT37) 40.75secs; 5 David Seaton (4.9 Pilbeam-BMW MP43) 43.44secs; 6 Brian Woffenden (3.2 Ralt-Judd RT37) 44.85secs; 7 Angus Buchan (1.3 Radical Clubsport+) 44.86secs; Steve Broughton (2.0 SBD Reynard 903/DB-Mk01 Duratec) & Mark Smith (2.0 SBD Reynard 903/DB-Mk01 Duratec) DNS; no other qualifiers.

2011 SBD Motorsport MSA British Sprint Championship Positions: 1 Stewart Robb Snr 38pts; 2 Mark Smith 33pts; 3 Colin Calder 32pts; 4 Colin Birkbeck 26pts; 5 Mike Musson 21pts; 6 Steve Broughton 20pts; etc

Next Championship meeting is at Snetterton on the 100 circuit at the end of May.

The finish line was moved back for the Sunday.

Initially we thought it was a decision made with safety in mind (two cars went off after the finish on Saturday).

I believe, however, that it was due to an error in the track layout submitted with the application for the MSA permit.

Unfortunate as no records could be set on the Sunday.

I understand that the finish position will be restored for next year (on the Saturday, it was in exactly the same position as it had been in 2010).

Cheers,

Eric

I think the reason for the off's after the finish was that the clock showing times was positioned relatively close to the finish and drivers were concentrating on looking at their times rather than braking to slow down for access to the paddock, they then braked heavily on a cambered road and hey presto a spin occured. Moving the clock down the track should help with this - we'll see.

Lots of grit on the track from 'Clock thro' and after the finish, with 2 lines out 1 for return to Paddock, and 1 for rerun/2nd driver. Not great for braking !!
2 drivers went over the finish line backwards, so not issues with looking at time

As one of the spinners, I can assure you looking for the clock was not a factor. In my case it has been suggested that I clipped the grass on the inside of the last corner so was already unstable crossing the line.
I am not sure of that but can say that it was necessary to brake hard after the finish and the dirty track would not have helped.

Angus, I thought you were trying to convince Douglas that some thing was wrong with the rear end of the car
