Roadgoing Classes Insurance Question
I'm looking at purchasing in the next few days a car suitable for competing in the road going classes but having read the regs for several up coming events I'm having concerns.
I am a garage proprieter and all our personal vehicles are listed specifically on the motor insurance industry database as this gives us unlimited SDP as well as business use for these vehicles within our business insurance policy. I can present a certificate of motor insurance for that policy with ease. My question is this, it says in the regs that business, motor trade policies are not acceptable. Does this mean I need to go and buy seperate insurance just to get me a private policy certificate to present to the scrutineer before competition simply because my policy is run through my business All my family vehicles are insured this way and have been for the last 17 years and all above board, it just seems a bit ridiculous but I don't want to be turned away at scrutineering and I certainly don't want to be forking out £450 for a seperate policy every year, can anyone clarify the situation for me. Just to clarify I am fully aware that neither will actually insure my car during competition in any way but thats not what I want..all I need is a scrutineers pass on the day |

I've never been asked for MOT or insurance by a scrute, it seems to me that if the tax disc is in date there is an assuption that the other requirements are in place.

Both my MOT & Insurance certificate were checked at Barbon last week for class SA.

Ive never had my insurance checked at an event ever. Ive had my MOT looked at a few times though. If youre going for the new SA class it might be different though....presumably because the thing might show up illegal modifications!

I think you'll find that the regs about no trade policies tend to apply to standard classes rather than roadgoing classes. The latter sometimes need to be road legal - but don't necessarily need to have ever seen a road.
Things vary from place to place so, if you are bothered, ring the event organisers - they are enthusiasts like the rest of us & I'm sure they will be more than happy to accept your entry.
