Seats for hillclimb tintops/closed sportscars
![]() Sorry if this has been flagged up before, can't find anything by searching though. Is there simple explanation for the current situation relating to Homologation and manufacturing dates for seats for tintops/closed sportscars in hillclimbs and sprints. It appears that rally cars now have a different requirement for 2012 in some cases, the MSA updates and clarifications have me doubting my understanding. Any info would be helpful Thanks tp |

I'm using a Corbeau seat out of a 1995 BTCC car, that has never been questioned but then generally I only do National B events.

As far I am aware there is no "use by date" for seats or belts in sprint & hillclimbs.
I have just replace my seat during the interior redecoration because it's a 1997 build & I thought should change it even though it wasn't necessary & have never had questioned |

Thanks btcc93 and red21
Really appreciate the information, all our experience is with F1, other single seaters and current BTCC.
I imagined that the regsfrom the blue book would be universal as I could not find anything that said they did not apply, the generally accepted rule being if it does not say you can ....then assume you cannot. It's nice to know that that is not always the case in hillclimbs and sprints.

First look in section S (Speed regs), then if there is no specific regulation then generally the Common section applies.
In this casr neither the specific (S) or common (K) sections refer to or need any FIA approval or dates for the seats. and even the belts need not be in date, only carry the identification label and be a matched set in good condition.

When I was scruteneered at Thoresby Park in September I was told in no uncertain terms that I would have to replace my seat belts for this season (2012) because they expired at the end of the year. I think there was some rule that said that if the belts did not have an expiry date on them then they could be used if in good condition.

Clear as mud then!!
Now I know that what I thought I knew was not the case at all.
I used to be undecided but now I am not so sure. Thanks for the input guys |

Having double checked with my personal scrute he confimed what I've always understood, seat belts for hills and sprint do not have to be 'in date'. It's not unknown for scrutes who normally work the circuits to mistakenly apply that criteria, on two occasions I've been warned that my rain light was not working.
However, as Redt is off to France this year a new, 'in date' set, will be obligatory. |

Clarification
Now that makes perfect sense and an easy and understandable mistake to make.
![]() Does the same then also apply to seats? Thanks tp |
