Shelsley - Crossing - grate

I was at Shelsley recently, and while walking the hill (as I always do) I noticed a new drain cover, besides the famous one exiting the Esses.
The new one I discovered was on the turn in point to the Crossing.
Before I turn in, I actually turn right and cling to the right side of the track before i turn across, but there was this deep set drain cover right where I might have driven. My wheels are not wide enough to risk driving near, since if I hit it square on its too bigger bump. When I drove it, the cover was right where I wanted to be, confirming my morning walk thoughts, though I've never noticed it, walking or driving, in previous years.

Does any one else find the same thing?

Cheers,
JB

It is not, as far as I know, a new one, probably the thick mesh leaf filter has gone.
Congratulations on another lowering of the pre-war record.
I was also pleased to see that you are maintaining a certain standard of dress when competing with a shirt and tie beneath the overalls.

Quite correct Mr Floads, The mesh was removed three years ago to allow water to go down the intended route. It did require more survelance on the part of the hill custodian to make sure that the gulley was clear, but it did help in protecting the rest of the hill.

It must be my new line which found the drain cover then!!

I was also fishing as to whether others found it a hinderance, hence if my line was OK.

Kennel and Crossing certainly got full commitment, the Esses I expect looked less impressive, which is my game-plan. Feed-back from you experienced guys is very much appreciated - thanks.

I think that it was Martin Groves who said that the "secret" of a good time at SW is one's passage/committment through Kennel and Crossing.
