Rob summed it up rather well, but I'll elaborate anyway. Supersports is a historic class: iron engine blocks, steel & ally chassis, very limited aero. Libre can have any engine in a carbon tub & could be quicker than single-seaters (potentially more aero surface to play with). Few other clubs still run supersports (most are now old enough to run in "classic" claases), but S.W. are absolutley entitled to run what their members want - who else is any motor club answerable to?

A further elaboration is that while most events don't run supersports classes (due to lack of entries) and these run in the Sports Libre class, they can only do so under a special dispensation for clubmans cars to not meet the minimum cockpit width rule.
This means that clubmans cars that have been modified such as to use bike engines etc. are strictly speaking not eligible for sports libre and shouldn't run. However, I have yet to see one refused.
