Skoda Estelle mk1 (Snotty!)

Since there is now this lovely thread I thought I would share my progress on next years multi purpose car (sprints, hillclimbs, auto solos, shows and historic rally tests)
Having owned a few rear engined Skodas I have found them extremely easy to work on, spares are plentiful and they are a hoot to drive. I needed an older car to get in before the 1981 cut off for post historics at some events.
After a bit of searching I found this (shed) which is well known in old Skoda circles called Snotty. Snotty has had wide track suspension fitted, spax kit, 4 pot brakes, 1/2 cage, period buckets etc but as you can probably see from the first picture, the nugget I bought it from had widely abused and neglected it -

After a lot of stripping down and removing the front wings off it went to the bodyshop

New doors were then needed due to rusty holes, along with new wings and hey presto!

I have managed to source an extremely rare set of new bumpers from ebay and lots of works replica competition parts. I am going to run a 1300 5 port iron head engine on a single 40DCOE and so far have had Autosprint in Birmingham (cant recommend him highly enough!) port and flow the head and balance. Hopefully it will acheive the heady figure of 100bhp!

I will be out on the Isle of Man Classic in April and various other events in't north over the summer....undoubtedly not winning anything but will be acheiving high levels of oversteer!

like it!
are they heavy? whats the engine like in terms of tuning, responsive or not?

always had a soft spot for them, mainly due to John Hauglands exploits on the RAC Rally (real one, not poxy modern tour of 3 sq miles of wales...) and of course the silhouette racers of Tony Sugden et al.

No picture

Hi
It might be my ageing eyes, but can't see a link to a piccy. this is very frustrating as I'm now totally intrigued (or just plain nosey) to see Snotty.

Its a mk1 so it is lighter than some of the 1980s versions, but then the wide track suspension is a bit heavier. I am reckoning at around 800kg and thats with a full interior, fluids and a half cage. The engines arent great for tuning. The later 8 port head (1990s Rapids and Favorits) is better, but then it wouldnt be legal for most events because the 8 port is an alloy head whilst all Estelle saloons had cast iron.....and the 8 port cast iron is as rare as rocking horse poo because it was a rally team only item. The blocks are all alloy making the engine quite light. I believe its possible to get 110bhp with the 5 port head and a single carb.....time will tell!

Well they are showing up in their original location & in your quote - must be something to do with Yorkshire!

Hmmm very odd. there's nothing showing at all in my Mozilla Firefox Browser(default) So I tried browsing in MS Explorer and I can see red dot place holders for the images in both locations, but still no images.
Maybe something here for Tech Talk area......

Eureka - found the problem. Photos are hosted on PhotoBucket and my company's computer network doesn't allow any links to Photo Bucket.
I'll check out the thread again when I get home.
