Can someone (especially JL) confirm whether we can still use FIA 1986 overalls at Saint Goueno or do I finally have to buy some 8856-2000 overalls? I'd hate to be too smartly turned out with the correct size overalls after all these years..

I have personally been turned away from a hillclimb at scrutineering with the 1986 spec overalls. You might as well be wearing cotton pyjamas for all the residual fire protection overalls of this age will afford you. (IMHO) He |He!

Go on spoil yourself!

Greg.

Thanks for that. Some of us want every conceivable protection available and take every possible precaution to minimise the risks in everything we do which is an extremely commendable position.....but not necessarily entirely mine.

Anyone able to answer the question. FIA 1986 seems acceptable to the MSA so how about our French colleagues?

My 3" seat belts were brand new 5 years ago and are still perfectly acceptable at UK events, however, I have to buy new ones for this year to compete in France. What is acceptable in the UK may not be in France...

Why do you say this? The fire resistance is inherent to the Nomex material, it doesn't 'wear out' like Proban.

As long as your suit passes 2012 MSA scruteneering in the UK then it will be fine for Saint Goueno and La Pommeraye Masters events.

Hi chaps,

I am only commenting with your safety in mind. Older overalls however well cared for, get worn thin, the stitching gets loose and so on. I have personally seen the results of petrol burns on human skin and as I said at the start, I am only worried for your safety so you have to make the call on how safe you want to be.

If John says you are ok with UK spec overalls, GO FOR IT!

You won't be disappointed with the events!

Bring your party head! Both events will make unforgettable weekends!

Thanks for the very clear response John

The reason I love hillclimbs so much if I'm 100% honest is the adrenaline and the feeling that I am beating the system (no plod, no 'safety' cameras and little evidence yet of killjoy H&S executives). Whilst you are all entitled and quite sensible in taking every precaution possible I can't help thinking you'd be best protected by not leaving home but I'd never think of suggesting that as we are individuals with our own thoughts and principles.

Once again thankyou John for confirming that the MSA requirements are sufficient and look forward to seeing you in June.
