Lightweight.

Neil.
It looks really quite light now and should be easy to pedal hard if you have the stamina, might pay to hang on to some of the ajoining panels just in case you need them later on for infills etc. The whole project can only be described as very brave and hopefully will come together OK.
MJ.

About time for an update. Been waiting for a new roll cage to arrive from Oreca in France. Delighted with it, superb profiling on the ends, just tack it together, and away we go. Decided to start by welding it together with high strength Cold Drawn Seamless Parcel tape, to see how it sat in the Scooby floorpan.

Pleased with how well it sat, will just need the rear stays re-aligned a little to fit the rear turrets.

Next I installed the cage into the Clio shell, and tack welded the main frames together, then pulled the entire assembly out of the bottom, to be welded properly. The idea is to weld it all up, install it onto the floorpan when it is finished, and finally drop the Clio shell back down over the lot to be welded together. Also the cage can be used for a datum to ensure everything is square.

Damn light too, complete cage is only 40kg, as my lightweight colleague demonstrates!

Today I have been out with the angle grinder again, but now actually doing something constructive, instead of destructive. Laid in the rear half of the scooby floorpan, and cut out the neccessary bits to allow the Clio shell to sit over it.

From the other side,

Finally today I re-shaped and welded back in some inner wing strengtheners that I had removed for ease of alignment.

So far so good, as they say!

More grinder work has reduced the Scooby floorpan to the right dimensions to fit under the Clio. Quite amazed at how well it fits!

Some more work this week. First a picture to make all of you roll cage installers jealous. How nice if you could work like this all the time?

Been installing the front strut to roll cage braces, fiddly and time consuming, but I wanted to make it as neat as I could.

Eventually got to this stage.
